Recommendation on cold weather kiteboarding gloves

I should also give an update. I find the new gloves I bought to be the best winter accessory by far! I was considering sawing dry gloves onto my dry suit, but most of the dive gear shops steered me into the Atlas 460 gloves with wrist gaskets and I love them. You lose less dexterity than even 3mm neoprene, plus you get to use the bar as you please,(even rigging), since they are gloves vs mitts! They are dry no matter how hard you wipe out or body drag and there's not much fatigue since the rubber and fleece combination is softer and less bulky then neoprene. They look more ridgid than I have immagined and the gloves are only $16 + $20 for the gaskets. It will be extra if you had the dive shop put them together! All and all best kite gloves you can get!

Hi, I was wondering if you could send me a photo or more details about the glove set up you described (Atlas 460 with Wrist Gaskets). Are they permanently attached to your drysuit or do you have to attach them somehow each time? I live and kite in Vermont on Lake Champlain and struggle with cold hands. This seems like a promising solution.

NRS Toaster Mitts, I don't use any other gloves any more. Pre curved, your forearms won't get tired. Good touch to bar. And super warm.

Haven't tried the new model but 2 generations old are still in use and they work great.

They are brilliant thin enough not to get you arms tired and very warm. Good grip and durable I'm on my third season on them.

They work very well and keep my hands very warm, I did have some of their pre-armor skin just Neoprene and wore through them very quickly, but these have lasted me 2 winters.

Wear a super kick ass wet or dry suit and you can get away with 3mm gloves pretty much anywhere.

Also get to know the hunting reflex and use it. Makes all the difference in the world.

They are great by glove standards. Thing is gloves just suck. They are the very last piece of gear I employ at the end of the season, and the first piece I shed in spring.

A warm core and pumping hot lava blood are the answer.

Agree with jump shark. You never need more than 3mm gloves if your core is warm enough.

In really cold weather I come in every 30 minutes put the kite down for about 30 seconds. There's an artery that runs under our palm blood can't get into the fingers very well when gripping the bar you have to really put the kite down.

Have you seen any articles about mastering this hunting response? I windmill my arms to drive warm blood into fingers but maybe there is a better way?

Worth pointing out that it's not just the hands, but compression at the subclavian artery (artery that gets squished between collar bone and first two ribs when we hunch forward from cold or poor riding posture. people walk around banging and shaking out their hands, when if you just get em to stand up straight and lift their collar bone up off the neurovascular bundle that feed the arms, their hands turn pink and come back so much faster. Wear a smoking hot suit in the first place and you wont hunch your shoulders up around your ears, negating half the problem.

The hunting reflex is great. you just rig with bare hands, and go stick em in the lake for a good minute so they get real cold, then go get your wetsuit on and let them warm back up to beet red, then ride and they will be warm for hours.
