The hunting reflex works great I have used this at work, in the spring and fall for kitesurfing and in the winter for snowkiting.
30 years of windsports experience and no gloves that I have tried beat mitts. Currently using the older NRS Toaster mitts.

The way the hunting reflex works is that the hands alternately get cold and warm like every 15 minutes or so as the blood is first shut off and then let back in so if your hands feel cold then suddenly feel warm again then cold again it's working right.

Mine get cold and stay cold. If I windmill my arms I can get warmth back but there is not cycling of cold / warm. I go to mitts otherwise there is no way to stay warm sub 5 degrees C.

Rip curl flashbomb mittens. Insanely warm, gaskets, fuzz, etc. I have ridden in 32 degree water and 20 degree air with these and warm fingers. Forearms wear out though because they are made for surfing.

Neil Pryde psycho,
3 mm liquid seam gloves,
waterproof and never flush through down the cuffs due to a soft O ring sort of seal.
very stretchy, tight fit is best to maintain dexterity in the fingers.
I buy size small which fit more easily when used a few times, size medium slide on easily but you loose the ability to fix larks head knots etc,
this is a major drawback in most of the winter gloves i have used in the past.

I would say as thin as possible, just enough to keep the windchill off.
I have cheap Decathlon 2mm gloves, anold pair and new pair, the old have become thinner, but still grab them as long as possible as you nearly do not feel them.
I Do net get any forearm fatique/cramping, so I am a strong fan of getting a very warm westuit your head covered and once that is as it should be, you can wear thin gloves and thin shoes, just enough to protect you from windchill
cheers
dude

with you on this,
these thin "ball handling gloves" from decathlon have a sticky soft silicone stranding all over the palms and fingers, so fantastic grip,
very thin, super stretchy so the kids sizes fit the best (no tax on the kids sizes)
and silly cheap, the kids ones are under £4 a pair,
bought loads of pairs for me and my beach helperwife pauline, wear them most of the year down to 10c,
then the psycho 3mm gloves are best,
