Just replaced the stock black Dyneema line with the gray Spectra of the same diameter. The Dyneema did not look bad, but it's getting cold so I thought why not. I will report back on wear when I have some hours on the new rope.

Friend just had his RE slider rope break, in the middle, new late spring, so not long ago. Can't comment on how many sessions exactly but don't think it was excessive. He ended up losing a new SB in the process.
Those with breakage, are you connecting a standard loop on the line or something with less friction?
I use the slider loop (metal sheathing) or connect into the ring. Have also used low-friction antal ring in the past.
I guess I will just get used to frequent changes of the rope to be safe.
@iriejohn: I like your idea. Do you do anything special with the line ends after? I can't get 3.5mm but could get 3mm and 4mm.
I do nothing special with the ends, just tie tight figure 8.
4mm rope spliced which gives a diameter of 5.66mm would be fine
And I don't use rings on the rope, this is what I use. It is a 6mm stainless steel shackle onto which is welded a 25mm x 5mm stainless steel round ring. The wheel is the same as the original Jaystore Dynabar pulley wheel. Any size ring could be welded onto the shackle but I find 25mm (1") works fine. Virtually no rope wear of course.
Irie, why not connect directly to the shackle? Why the SS ring?
- When slack the shackle can sometimes invert.
- The shackle angle is a little too acute to easily attach the QR.
- 6mm is a little too thick for the QRs I use. I use 6mm shackles because the wheels (just under 6mm ID) fit perfectly. I first used a Dynabar wheel which perfectly fits a 6mm shackle.
- The ring is welded at 90 degrees to the shackle which makes the ring horizontal so that the QR I use fits perfectly 'up and over'.
Because I never unhook I do not use CLs. If using a CL then welding the ring to the shackle without turning it 90 degrees would be ideal. A slightly larger diameter ring (say 30mm) might also be better.
Having used my slider enough to become aware of how it's working I feel I need a bit more slack to stop the rig over sliding in some manoeuvres. I see you are using a fair amount of slack in your runner, have you optimised this for the feel you like?

I fit a new line as tight as possible. After a short time (2 or 3 sessions) the knots each end tighten and bed in making the line looser, and the rope 'stretches'. If it feels too loose then I just tighten it again by undoing one knot and retension the line, and vice versa. Not very scientific, sorry.
nb - there is minimum friction on the rope because the wheel is not sliding along the rope, it is running along it.
