Foil stuck on fuselage

Hi,

On my Gong Allvator M Pro there was quite a bit of play between the fuselage and the foil.

In order to remove any play I poured some epoxi into the fuse housing on the foil, coated the fuselage with mold release and vaseline on top to create a perfect fit.

Unfortunately now I can’t get the fuse out, it’s stuck. I’m trying to get it off by hammering and twisting, but does anyone have any other good tips on how to get it out?

The fuse is aluminium and the foil is carbon/glass.

Maybe if you straddle the foil over a gap in two 2x4s in position shown, then find a spot on aluminum fuselage where you can tap in a downward motion to promote release. obviously some padding for foil edge or maybe a groove it can rest into.... maybe some sort of clamp on fuselage and a weighted ring or something....like a clutch or steering wheel remover is what I am trying to describe.. and a little heat always helps..

If it were a golf club with a carbon shaft that is expoxied in, the metal head (fuselage) would be heated and the shaft (mast) would be pried out.

Usually epoxies have a temperature at which they become soft, Tg.
For room temperature cure epoxies it is normally well below 100 C, more like 80-85. Heating to about this much temperature should help. Overdoing it a little may hurt the epoxy. Overdoing a lot will also hurt the aluminum. Try with hot water or heat gun on low setting (be careful).
No need to use a torch or oven to go higher.

Thanks for the tips, will try. Earlier I tried to cool down the fuse with ice cold water and heat the foil with a hair drier, but seems like I did it the wrong way around!

Seems smart to get the foil stationary and hit on the fuse, will try that together with heat:)

Got the stabilizer off by pouring boiling water on the fuse and tapping with a rubber mallet while applying some pressure. Harder to get the foil off, will keep trying tomorrow.

Having a lot of trouble, obviously didn’t grease the fuselage enough. Have tried hammering away from the foil on the fuse, also putting pressure to separate the fuse and the foil while tapping hard on the side of the fuse to promote release. Have done all this while pouring boiling water on the fuse and a bit on the foil ”casing” where it attaches to the fuse.

No luck so far.

Maybe chuck it in the freezer first. Then pour hot water on the cold alloy fuse. Hopefully the greater temp range of thermal expansion will help crank the release agent.
