wake foiling

Postby Jugglajon » Thu Nov 14, 2019 1:15 am

I know we're on a kite forum , but wanted to share this. I'm usually foiling with a kite but got the chance to try a big wing behind a boat the otherday. It was way easier than I thought it would be to foil the wake without a rope. Have any of you tried it and what set up are you using?

We used the Axis s-series 1000 High aspect wing. worked really well.

Heres a little video of the session.

I do it with a Gong Allvator pro XL (1900 cm2). Works well! A cheaper alternative, probably more drag than the axis.

Able to surf really small wakes, a 6 m rib worked fine:)

I use the Neil Pryde L wing to do this all the time, very fun! Able to pump from wake to wake and even ride on 3 and 4 wake back.

Saw this great video on learning how to do it the other day

certainly a very nice feeling - Not being connected to a boat or a kite. It might even inspire me to learn to surf foil. Our boat isn't the best at kicking up a wake but it worked well enough. Area of wing I think was 1300cm2 but it caught the wake well. Will have to practice the pumping to try and get back to the other wakes I guess.

We have been playing around with this. Partly for a novelty when no wind or surf, partly as a training tool and also for testing equipment. If you have a boat that doesn't do much wake, you can buy or make one of these wakeshapers. It was pretty easy to make one with suction cup glass carrier and some plywood. It turned a 3/10 wake into a 6/10 wake at least.
