Poacher,

Your right, in the big picture, it's not an expensive sport. Wind is free, and most of the time so is access.

I should apologize to Flysurfing. Good on you man. I'm just babbling to justify the way I do it, because put quite simply I can't afford a new quiver like you every year. Wish I could. I'm glad you and enough others can. Regardless, I am an example against the railings of LWC and it would seem Downunder. I consider myself lucky and think anyone who really wants to kite can not only get into kiting, but stay in it, regardless of ability, local, or income*. Cost is often not the biggest barrier.

This is a thread started with a gif about a kite that has not hit the market yet and that few have ever seen. None of us should get too riled up! Some are excited, some are sceptical. Wont be long before we have hashed as much out as we are going to killing time before we actually see a few.

Still, it's something kind of constructive to talk about.

Not enough of that lately.

aluula pivot would be insane. 12m kite that loops as fast as an 8m. We are probably a few years out tho have to hope that this experiment by Ocean Rodeo catches on and other manufacturers make their own version, but you never know might just be a bit too expensive. Remember that Cuben Fiber Hellfish? That thing was such a dog, that was 15 years ago already, so you can never tell what's going to happen. I can tell you right now the Aluula is way better than the Hellfish so maybe it's gonna work this time.

I still believe that Aluula is sketchy. There must be something that manufacturer doesn't tell us. For example, I'm not sure if those kites were tested in winter conditions. What if Aluula becomes fragile in freezing temperatures? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, considering the prices. Every year for us kites become more and more expensive. They do become more and more complicated. For example CrazyFly. It used to be simple and cheap. 2020 kites are armored like fookin rhinos!

Dude, believe? How can you believe anything about something you know nothing about?

Suspect maybe?

Ocean Rodeo are not Best. I’ve had many of their products and spent time with a number of their people.

I suspect they have done their homework.

Time will tell.

Ocean Rodeo is based in Canada.

Doesn't stop millions of people from going to churches and read silly books when they don't know the true nature of the God. Only anthropomorphized idol.

But we're not here for religious discussions. Nor for picking on the words, especially when english is not my first language, so I use words I deem appropriate.

Even if OR based in Canada I have not seen a single Aluula kite used for snowkiting, only on the water. You might argue that most of the kites never advertised on the snow, except for ram airs. But still, so far I only seen reports of the kite used on the water and I'll wait for reports from the winter season. It might be fine, but might be big bust. Time will tell. :naughty:

Cold, puncture, UV, delamination. All are unanswered questions.

I think they have been testing in house for over a year and have had Aluula kites in GKA competition for this past season. Incidentally their rider Carla Herrara just won the women’s Surf overall. A first for them.

If they really come in at 1/2 the weight and don't explode in normal careful hands then OMG super sweet.
I am a bit surprised they announced it so early before they could ship product however.

Funny how some think that there is very little margin on kiting products.

To manufacture the board cost is a couple of dozen bucks. Margin is huge.

Marketing? C'mon, I did not see any marketing for Carved boards, and they still sell well above 1000Euros.

Do we see any marketing on TV? Radio? Internet marketing is cheap as chips.

Any kiter worth some salt can ride any board or any kite and still be in top 1%.

If we dig old vids (15-20 years old?), people who knew how to ride did extremely well with the gear at that time.

Today, people who ride well are just not that better. If better at all.
