The best kite for Teaching?

Postby Barryg101 » Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:48 pm

Out of curiosity I'd like to get your opinion on the best school kite. From first flight, waterstart right up to first jumps.

I've seen plenty of schools use a variety of gear but was surprised that some duotone schools teach with the Mono. Why not use the Evo for lessons?

Airush have the classic DNA but I see students learning on lithium.

I'm curious about what you think works best and why, seeing as there's a serious lack of wind around here I might as well learn a bit

Absolutely love the Epic Renegade! Intuitive, easy to fly, eats gusts and is really forgiving. As the rider advances, it sits in a great spot for jumps and has a lot of drift. I owned a school for a while and it was always my go to kite.

Not that I have much experience from many of these kite, but the Ozone Catalyst is a marvelous kite. Almost bounces off the water relaunching them. So so stable. Not bad for jumps either.

Can't tell you if it is better than the other kites mentioned, but the Catalyst is a really good kite.

Yeah I worked with the catalyst last season and loved it! Definatley a great relaunch and very stable in air. The season before we used Cabrinha radar which was fine but you wouldn't believe how many times that Kite inverts after a crash it just flips over and relaunches inverted.

What advantages would the mono have over the Evo?

Forgetting brands and hype....any modern three strut delta shaped kite with modern control bar safety systems.

I like the Ocean Rodeo Prodigy as an example.

Almost all the one strut kites out are dual marketed as beginner friendly. Will take a while to fully convince people that they can take over the school role, but I bet the Evo is in its last couple seasons. There is just so much overlap in the design brief.

Light, stall resistance, and easy relaunch are always in the advertising blurb along with easy access to power/sheet and go. Then the promo vid shows a slide, a boosty board off and at least one grabbed invert in efforts to reassure.

Makes sense to phase out purely beginner kites like the DNA or Z. So many well behaved kites out there.

I'm confused as to why the Naish Ride never became more popular. Now they chickened out and made the triad or whatever its called. The Boxer will eat that model in a couple more years.

Yup, but doesn’t need to be 3 strut, any modern delta shaped kite will work well. :bye:
