Older Naish Torch's on newer bars..?

Postby BillyGoatGruff » Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:56 pm

I have 2013, 2014 and 2016 Naish Torch's and fly them on a 2014 shift bar. I read on here a while ago that a few were using the 2018 & 2019 Torque (5th line) bar on older Torch's and generally they worked pretty well, is this the case ?

I'm looking to buy a 2019 bar and use on my older Torch's. The older Torch's were designed to have a very high "Y" split, so how does the new bar affect the kite ?

thanks

As I recall Ewan Jaspan was riding pre low V ( high Y) Torch model with that set up. He said he's using 4line bar with added 5th with some adjustment at that time.
On the other hand Naish stated that the kite is somewhat redesigned in order to accommodate low V.
I haven't tried personally as I replaced Torch with Dash.

Hi Ludmil and billygoatguff,
Have you tried the new torch bar on your old naish torch?
I am about the try it on my old torches and I was wondering what it is like before doing it.
My old kites are 2014 & 2015 which I hardly used but I have the current torch bar.

I've never flown a torch on a low V, always a high Y. Let me know how it goes.

I have tried the 2017 ATB bar on my 2011 (high Y).

The main issue is far less travel on the 2017 bar. I also had some issues with backstalling. Have bought some 10cm pigtails now to make the breaklines longer.

Update: had a full session on this setup today, torch 11m, 2011 with a 2017 ATB bar. I added 10cm pigtails on the steering lines which made the kite sit comfortably at full power and I had a little bit of depower available despite the short throw on the 2017 bar. In gusts, there was a little bit of jellyfishing, but I expected a lot more, actually. All in all, I think it worked great, and I think I will use the 2017 bar in the future as I like it better.

I did not try the release, so make your own asessments on the safety side.
