North wam 6' delaminate

Postby grandeand » Mon Dec 02, 2019 2:49 pm

hello guys..
a friend gave me this surf.
it has delaminated in the hull.
the video is in Italian ..
https://youtu.be/xZZalC-rH98

how do you advise me to work?
1) I cut the hull and do the lamination.
2) I make many holes and inject resin and microspheres and push them all over the hull, then put them under vacuum ..
3) throw it away.
what do you think?

If you want to do it correctly, #1. https://boardlady.com/bottombubble.htm

If you want to do it fast, #2 BUT follow this procedure: https://boardlady.com/injection.htm
You'll need to inject foam, NOT RESIN. Resin will just puddle up and not spread. I've done 8lb foam injection on a windsurf board and it worked great. You don't need to use such heavy foam but I was doing the deck stance/strap area. Wear gloves and after you inject the foam cover the holes with your fingers to help the foam spread out. Perhaps go with the lighter 2lb foam on the surfboard as the skin is thin on the bottom.

but delamizione has formed bubbles.
if I put the foam, it expands between the lamination and the inner bread, forming a bubble not in line with the table ...
it would need a foam or material with very slow hardening or expansion, to be injected inside and then have time to put the table under empty.

So the skin is actually deformed and raised up? Can't see the side profile in the video. But you're probably screwed then. Cut it out, fill it with foam and glass it. I'm guessing that even if you fill it with resin, because of the deformation in the skin it will delam the first time it flexes.

yes, it is deformed and raised up ...
the fastest and cheapest solution is to inject the resin inside and vacuum ...

I have not studied the vids so I am not exactly sure what you are doing but I thought this little tip may be appropriate.

When you start a delam type of repair have the board warm and let it cool as you proceed, this way it will suck resin in.

If, for example, you did the opposite say bring it into a warm house from a cold shed to do the repair it would blow bubbles at you as it warmed up because the air in the foam will be expanding

Alternatively, you could also devise a method to inject in one end of the repair and suck at the other. Need to think about where you inject and where you suck............... Maybe vacuum bag or weight once resin is in place.......... Depends on size of delam etc.
