Foil board deck pads

Postby purdyd » Mon Nov 25, 2019 9:49 pm

I’m looking for a suggestion for replacing the deck pads on my slingshot micro dwarfcraft.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hydro Turf has some good sheet products. Standard use is jetskis and Hobie Cat sailboat foot rails.
I like it on my foil board deck.
Use Contact cement to attach.

The NSI site is a good recommendation.

I went with NSI. Used their pads for decades, back into the windsurfing days. Custom cut for a reasonable price.

Does anyone do a concave deck pad? I’d like to add one to my Groove so it has the concave like the DC.

The (new) WMFG Grooved pads are good for foils. They're 3mm thick and with the groove pattern are really easy to cut to length.
I pulled the pads off a production foil I had (it had mediocre traction) and put Stubby pads on it. I put the front and back pads on then cut the middle 3 pieces to fit.

Went with dakine longboard pads, then cut to my board shape.

They work wonders

how do you remove the old deckpads?
I was thinking hairdryer set on high at 3 kw, working from one corner and then directing the hot air flow beneath the old deck pad as you pull it slowly clear?

Groove do their standard soft grip replacement deck pads that seem to offer the right amount of grip with ability to slide, rather than grip like velcro.

The standard diamond pattern sort of grip pads used on many brands can wear too easily,
with the rubber diamond shaped edges and pointy ends breaking away and looking worn and scruffy in no time.

The NSI pad was $54. I sent a template so it was built exactly as shown with a kicker. I have never seen wear on NSI pads. The top of the diamond is flat.

My experience is one solid piece without cutouts will stay down longer.

The original grooved “corduroy” pads on the slingshot board were too sticky for me and looked suspiciously like the wmfg pads with the grooved pattern.

I’ve had good luck removing pads using a vibrating cutter with a scraper blade and goof off solvent.
