The holding tank is the most important part of the vacuum pump ;
doesn't matter if Ya got a small pump, but I need time to find
the leeks , and it's the tank that allowed for that, when using a small pump.
My holding tank, is a 15-gal Beer Keg ; i want another one to add
to it, only makes things easier !
Yea -- you definitely, want an adjustable HG switch , because the HG used, is
different for different core materials ; ply core, use Max Hg , Nomex honeycomb
will need less than 10Hg, 3.5oz density foam core is a different HG than roracell.
Take the time to do the adjustable HG switch ; you WILL Need it (.)
Most seem to manage without switches and tanks, but as ever there is contradictory advice. But I see your point about weaker cores and wanting to drop the pressure.

Drop the pressure by simply releasing a vac...
kISS all the way.
Use a foam and clamps instead for simple project.

ZU07S - Vacuum Generator 12 L/min, SMC
Manufacturer Part Number: ZU07S Brand: SMC
I have been using one of these for years, less than 20$ us and size of a pencil. Since I am living on a boat a run it from a dive tank. Using pvc pipes with end plugs as tank with a preassuregage and valve to control preassure.

That map is wrong for Japan. It’s 100V but the different areas in that map delineate 50 vs 60 Hz
