Moses T38 or Groove skate Large for improver?

Postby richy-c » Tue Dec 24, 2019 9:51 am

Hello. Im looking to upgrade from my slingshot Alienair to a board which is a little thinner lighter and shorter but im wanting a board with some nose rocker and some decent volume for improving transitions. Ive narrowed it down to a moses t38 or a groove skateboard full carbon in Large. There are some good deals around on the T38 but its hard to get good info from moses website regarding nose rocker and volume. Can anyone compare the two?
The Alienair is very forgiving but quite a handful to manoeuvre in the water hence the reason for changing.
Thanks

Rich

T38 has very little scoop. Buy the Groove Skate or Wave and you will be very happy.

You haven't seen the 30% discount advertising banner of Newind here on the forum running since weeks ?
IMO they produce the boards for Moses http://www.newind.net/foilboards/

I have the Groove Skate Large (130cm) and I'm very pleased with it. It has all the features I want in a board - a good scoop/rocker, foil rail mount, light, decent volume to help with transitions etc....

I believe "foil" on this forum owns both of these boards so you could perhaps drop him a direct message to get a comparison.

The Groove has a very nice shape but the Large may feel too big pretty quickly. I would seriously think about the smaller sizes unless you have a specific reason you need a Large size.

I find that the large works well in waves as well as being forgiving in touch-downs too.

I suppose it's a balance to get the right size for your needs and your expected progression.

Groove make these boards in 100, 110, 120 and 130 so plenty of sizes to choose from.

Rich,

You are on the right rack for sure. It’s very foil dependent as far as how the transition to smaller boards will feel. My own experience on Moses 633 was that as board gets smaller, the disconnect that happens with touchdown lessons and becomes much easier to deal with. So when board hits water if even sinks some my balance is still riding the foil through water as opposed to pushing board through water, making recovery better.

Here lies the magic of smaller board with correct shape (grooveskate, Kanaha shapes, etc) paired with 633 type foil.

The large boards don’t allow this feeling to be learned and inhibit progression actually when board touches down (except for early learning of just get above water and pitch control).

When I first tried smaller board (microcraft) I was on earlier version of foil (lift all around) and found it so difficult. Once I went to 633 I began to quickly downsize board with grooveskate first edition and then to 100cm with no problem.

Just buy a Groove Skate 130 and ask Santa to bring you the T38 🤙

Out of interest are you now using your 90 mast or even the 101?

I have the Groove skate L it's perfect in every way! Just enough rocker for forgiving touchdowns. Just enough board for a larger rider in ligthwind. With the 633 it's a match made in heaven!

I wouldn’t be scared to go smaller. I went from alien air to dwarfcraft micro.

I think for transitions it’s more about the foil than the board, Even on the surface, especially with free ride higher lift foils.

One thing you might consider is where you are standing now relative to the foil on the alien air and how that would transfer over to the board you pick.

Good luck!
