Re: Brazilian beach rules ???

Postby Toby » Thu Dec 26, 2019 3:06 pm

These rules comes from surfboard riders. They want the place for themselves.

Same discussion I have when it comes to priority in the waves...even in chop...they just want everyone else to give them space.

I have the same rights as everyone else with my twintip, waves or no waves.

Right hand in front is the main rule that overrides all other rules.

Of course, common sense comes into place if I see someone riding a real wave and he was in it first...same I expect if I am downwind approaching a wave that one gives me space to hit the kicker.

No one can have it all. Give and take.

Exactly I dont even mind to give priority if someone is coming on the wave, however "inappropriate to twintip" is far to much and eas even shared buy a pro wave rider what a shame

Please, it’s kitesurfing. There are surprisingly few hard and fast rules. That’s part of what makes it so much fun. So, the above is sometimes true and sometimes not. If there are 7 or 8 people riding waves and have established a rotation and are doing well and having fun and then
You show up with any board and decide to jump and mess up the pattern
Is this ok?
Yes, you have the ‘right’ to ride anywhere you want but it makes you “that guy” who messes up everyone else’s fun just so he can have fun. The main rule is Don’t be that guy.

It would be the same if there were 5 or 6 people riding in rotation at at flat water spot throwing tricks and someone showed up and started riding back & forth in a cross pattern messing it up for the others. Just wrong and if can’t understand why you ARE that guy.

Carry on. :bye:

I don't get it. The best wave ride I ever witnessed on the water in person was by a guy on a TT&Boots. Are they saying that TT's can't really ride a wave? I really do not even ride a TT anymore, but I am still aware that they do shred the waves, and in some ways are actually better than directionals on the wave.

And I consider my self the foremost expert in some areas of the D----E BAG prone surfer mentality and how it affects kitesurfing, but seriously? Only in Brazil, huh? I could see "wave riding only" if there is a perfect wave setup where only 1 or 2 kiters can engage it in a small area, and it is occupied by wave riders (TT or directional). But that is a pretty big stretch to ban a type of board all together? How about a mutant - can you only be half way in this area???

What is the surrounding area like? Room for TT non wave riders to still find some ramps? Is this a show off thing where the crowd primarily gathers in front of the wave spot and TT boosters were just trying to "be seen"?

Anybody want to put up a translation of the original pic? It would be a pain to do without being able to copy the text since it is a pic.

the last sentence is important:

ATTENTION: this spot is inappropriate for bidirectionals (TT) and beginners.

Just to push this slippery-slope argument a bit further.. would it be ok for those 5-7 riders in rotation to kick out the "foreigner" rider (of whatever different style) if he was there first? 8)
not saying that I disagree with what you said above.. just want to see where this little "slip" brings us...

could be the language thing...
If this is just a suggestion/warning - it's one thing..
If it is a prohibition then it's a load of BS, by whatever group of people that dared to post it...
