GoPro Max Horizon Level Test

Postby gmb13 » Fri Jan 10, 2020 7:31 pm

Finally got a chance to try out a GoPro Max in Hero mode while Kitefoiling. I filmed both Linear and Wide modes for this test. Unfortunately I did not see the option to shoot in high bitrate, so this was shot with the lowest bitrate. Also it was shoot with very bad light in overcast conditions.

Is Max really waterproof enough to use it for kitesurfing without an additional case ?

It's rated waterproof up to a depth of 5m without a case.

I know, but is it really enough to survive water pressure from splashes after dropping a kite on a water ? Sometimes it happens, at least to me :)

Nice! Way better than that gimbal camera that kiter made a few years ago. Revel, Revl? Whatever it had a motorized gimbal that never worked? well at least all of their videos had wonky horizons and mad dutch tilt all the time. Gopro seems to have nailed it with the Max.

I would not quite say they nailed it, as it is maxed out at 1080p and goes wonky when over your head, but it's a big step in the right direction for Go Pro which seem to have forgotten about Kiters and other Watersports users with their other products. I am really looking forward to see what the Insta R1 can do with all the cool tracking AI built in.
