Is 70cm mast too short for wavefoiling?

Correct me if I am wrong, but this guy surfs amazingly - one of the best i have ever seen - could one reason for his waveriding skills be the fact that he has TOTAL blind Control over his kite? If you look carefully he NEVER Looks to the sky, although he is riding often towards the kite and must expect lines coming down.
What kite is he riding?

70 is perfect if you have a narrow board, too wide and you will breach in the carves

90 feels like surfing on stilts to me... but like everyone says, preferences

85 is the biggest I’d go for a wave foil

^^^ that’s pretty small and a 70 would be no problem. I get lazy and the longer mast is easier on my knees for higher more frequent swell. I really don’t notice much of a turning difference between a 79 and 90 but the 633 is fairly slow. I’d curious to try Moses’s 82 just because I’ve heard it’s much stiffer. I think that’s more important than length.

i used to ride 18", then i made a 16" board and found the carves can go deeper, and harder G's, especially with a 70cm mast

one thing is for sure, my G's are way harder on a 70cm mast vs 90, carve harder than a surfboard i feel like, even though it looks lame to spectator..

I don't get why gybes and carves are harder and easier with 70cm than with 90cm, can anybody explain?

i used to ride 18", then i made a 16" board and found the carves can go deeper, and harder G's, especially with a 70cm mast

one thing is for sure, my G's are way harder on a 70cm mast vs 90, carve harder than a surfboard i feel like, even though it looks lame to spectator..

And how your 16 inch wide board looks like otherwise? Do you need more lenght and more rocker /rail volume/ to compensate for shorter mast and occasional touch downs?

I like the 70 quite a lot. Just a few years ago we were getting out past big waves with no mast at all. But a difference is I don’t judge my own riding by the absence of touchdowns and my board is friendly in touchdowns. Sometimes it’s just a chop licking the board and sometimes I put the board down to scrub speed or keep from getting ejected when passing whitewater. It’s all fine with me.

SUP and Prone surfers may ride shorter.

I find longer mast helps more for kite specific riding like hiking upwind or freestyle anything where a touchdown or avvidental ventilation would be more unwelcome. Practice foot switches for example with a long mast at mid depth.

How many of you guys ride at any similar level than this guy in the video?
I mean, Is it just Gunnar + the guy in the video + a couple more guys somewhere else, or most of you are able to ride like that?
I am so far away to doing anything remotely similar, that it looks almost impossible to me to ride so fluidly in waves like those.

I made a 36" x 16" with 3.5" of rocker

I also made a 33" but the nosedives after strapless jumps were annoying, cause everything had to be perfect, the three extra inches gave me some more forgiveness

1" thick divnycell with 50/50 rails

this is after I have mastered gybes and no touchdowns though, always starting with a downloop and I use a 1550 wing in 10 knots, but usually a 1200 wing

what's great about 1" thick is if you stomp a jump you can foil out the board out of the water when its submerged by stomping the rear foot, just muscle through it
