Neither. Both are WAAAY too big for surf style wing . I was snowkiting yesterday back to back with 5m and 13m PEAK. I must admit that 13m Peak wasnt so bad as i imagine it. Turning speed was in 15m LEI range and most important kite was very solid in air. No flapping no jelly. But powerwise it was like just little better than 5m. Powerstroke is almost non existent on 13m just solid pull. Of course with solid pull it have more power than 5m - but on HF all you need is burst of power to start. Then its just problem with big kite. Any competent closed cell foil will be better in those condition /6-10/
8m Peak is biggest i ever consider - 86kg naked moses onda 633
I have had Peak 4 11m and I have Gin Marabou 9m. Also have Gin Marabou 6m and have flown Peak 4 5m. Currently using Chrono 13 on very long lines in the lightest winds.
The Peak and Marabou are definitely more similar than they are different. The Marabou relaunches as long as a wave does not wash it. A full double skin kite relaunches a little more reliably.
The real challenge is that as you go down below 10 knots the single skin kites don't pull you up onto the board. So you get a very narrow wind range between enough to get on the board and overpowered.
So for example I can ride in lower winds on the Chrono. But if the wind drops, the Chrono may fall and I swim in. With the big Peak my low end was probably 1 or 2 knots worse than the Chrono. But if the wind drops, the Peak would easily fly and very mellow body drag back to shore.
I wonder if for example by using a more floaty board and doing a kneeling start or even sitting or standing on an SUP if a big single skin would achieve extreme low wind. But alas I don't have the curiosity to try and don't plan on buying any larger single skin.
So there are lots of great reports on Peak in 5m and smaller. May experience with Marabou is similar. 6 is great. 9 is good and I use it from say 10-14 knots. With the difference between 6 and 9, I have no curiosity for 12. I could let the 9 go at a reasonable price.
But 5m i think works well only from about 11knots. Looksat this video, he must work with bar a lot to ride about 10knots at 75kg with 5m peak. From about 4 minute in video: as all write sweet spot on 5m is from 12 knots. It mean that with 8m seet spot can be from 9 knots.

You have the right idea yes. Efficiency makes a huge difference as you get to 10 knots. The single skin behavior of sitting deep makes them fun in more winds but lacking in light.

and no it just dont work that way. You need ca. 2 times more power in 9 knots than in 12 knots. Also apparent wind change direction in 9 vs 12 and for compensate for this you need better L/D. So to bee in same sweet spot in 9 knts like on 5m Peak in 12 knots you need 10m kite with much better L/D which usually mean closed cell foil kite. And just cannot do any workaround around this - its simple physics

Probably yes, but in Peak4 topic quite a lot people wrote that with 8m peak they starting from 6/7 knots already hydrofoiling. Interesting if you sold all you peaks, which kites now do you use for foiling ? all closed cells ? But they falling on 4-5 knots rapidly, still peak keeps on 2-3knots.
Okay so I just spent some time in Cuba, we had very light winds, much lighter then normal, you can usually expect 10 - 14 knots daily but this was more like 4 - 8 knots daily
Anyhow, this somewhat new foiler with a Moses 633 was able to get himself going with a 13m Hyperlink. When the wind was starting to blow in the 6 knot range. It was not pretty but it was more then I could do with my setup.
Which brings me hear to finding that kite that will get me out on those super light days, Maybe the single skins are not the right kites?
I am using the 22" Cloud9 wing, so its a small surf wing
