Flysurfer Peak 4

80 kg
Peak 3m. 22 knots plus to water start on longish lines. Fun begins at 24. Have not found top end.

Peak 11m. 16 knots plus and 14 m lines and I can barely hold it down on land, begging for mercy. 9-11 knots hydrofoil bliss. 12 and up is constant edging to resist downwind pull. Under 9 and I cant waterstart. 3-4 knots is realistic in a buggy and it stays in the air well in such low winds.

Marabou 9 m. 11-13 knots comfortable. 10 possible. 14-16 uncomfortable due to downwind pull.

Marabou 6 m. 15-18 knots comfortable. 13-14 possible but really have to work for a start. 18-20 knots uncomfortable due to downwind pull and depower flapping.

Reference wind speeds are the iKite sensors on Horace Caldwell pier and Bob Hall pier.

Update - just bought the 5m ! Can't wait for it to arrive. To cold for the water, but I can landboard with it straight away.

At 95kgs with a big foil and board, I take the 8m below 12 kts. Even if the 5 can go a bit lower than that, then you're getting close to the limit where you need more than a couple of loops to get out of the water, and sometimes that's not even doing it. Plus it's restricting what you can do in terms of trajectories. The 8, whilst not as nimble, will give you much more freedom and peace of mind. Not too sure of bottom end, probably around 8kts, with the nice ability to stick in the air when waiting for a gust.

If you say its pretty gusty (you mention 2g20-10g20), then I think you went for the right kite there. (Also, it takes a few sessions to improve technique for lowend waterstart on the peak, itll get better and better in a few sessions)

Some days when its light wind (like 9m chrono doesn't want to fly statically through lulls) but with some gusts. I would happily take the 5m peak out and wait around in the water for a quick 12 knot gust to come through for the waterstart. Lulls are fine as long as the big surf wing can carry you through it with little pull from the kite.

Marco claimed in the video description that it was 8 to 10 knots. You'll notice there were few other kiters out even though there are plenty of local kitesurfers. Not enough wind for them

Doesn't make sense....that's way more wind...13sec into the video you see someone riding a TT or surfboard on a LEI kite.....
I have Peak 4 in 4m, 5m and 8m and can use the 8m from maybe 10kts, the 5m from 13kts and the 4m from 16kts. Sometimes I have to loop the kite several times to get onto the board and going. This is with Moses T22 and 683S wing, 85kg. We do have around 1kts of current going downwind most days in Barbados...I really love the Peak in the waves but its not a light wind wonder...

Anyone use P4 or similar small foil kites on grass launch. How do you keep kite on grass prior to launch?

Fix bar upwind. Bar is trimed to brake kite down. On hydrofoil just bar and line friction are often enough
