If it is down, full release?
full release is not an option - it can submerge - you will loose it probably
Needs bladders. Only half kidding. Or what about just replacing the wingtip mesh with a sock valve?

Edit: moved discussion to a new theead

For these concerns - you really need put something like balloon or condom into tips. Through drain hole it is possible without any mods. It can be mouth inflated without pump.
Or just dont drop your kite. Its actually quite easy with Peaks.

But this is bar thread! :)

First foil session with DIY carbon bar on 17m cloud and 5-15mph winds averaging 7-10mph, very variable and gusty. Bar performed amazingly well and extra throw and depower made handling the gusts much easier with such a big kite. Really loaded up the bar pressure but no flex noticeable. Lack of bar ends made it easy to slide hand up and grab leader line to yank more turn at bottom of kiteloop to save a kite dunk. Only adjustment I need to make is maybe shorten center line below bar to make it easier to reach bar after letting go. Love the light weight and feel. Bar unspins itself so quick and easy. No inertia.
Ciao Jyroder,

OT (sorry to others)

I have a BRM bar on my C17 and wonder if a bit more length would help with depowered turning (have to pull in to get it to move). Love the simplicity of the BRM bar, although I did make some removable winders (I really able to lazy to do it the "right" way)!

What legnth are you using (60cm)? I was thinking of going 65cm or even 70 :o .

Thanks,

Mike

After reading all the posts, it seems most of you went with a pretty strong bar. Ether double up or thicker wall strength. I was wondering if a 20mm ID x 22mm OD x 500mm bar would do the job. Especially if I mount a fairlead on it instead of drilling a center hole. Seems to me that it should be strong enough for a strictly light wind bar to ride with small kites like the Flysurfer Peak. Thoughts? Anyone ever broke a carbon bar just riding in light wind?
