Foiling bar with custom line winder

Postby br44 » Sun Apr 12, 2020 3:11 pm

I wanted to share my foiling bar with a custom line winder solution.

1. Simple carbon bar with 5 round holes. Everything is kept in place by stopper knots. Some foam added inside for floatation.
2. Safety ring from KiteAttitude.fr
3. Dyneema clutch. Goodbye clam cleats, I won’t be missing you. This is the same as the KISS one sold by kiteboarding.com, with the essential improvement shared here a while ago by Tomtom - Many thanks!! This makes it possible to trim in both directions with the kite in the air. May need to use both hands, but it works. (In the last pic, pull the rope to shorten, then pull the red line to lengthen the rope loop.)
4. Choose your own bar throw and trim - literally any length you want - as long as the rope is not too short.
5. No need for back line adjustments - adjust the front lines instead - the clutch gives you maximum flexibility there.
6. New line winder solution: stick 2 parts in the bar ends, optionally attached with an elastic cord. Only kept there between sessions - put them in your pocket when you fly. Not meant for self rescue on the water, but very handy on the beach. Improvised here from a line winder cut in half.

Sweetly done br44. What was the source of the top center line/trim strap ring, (the one with bar across it),the ring that acts as a stopper for the flag to flying line?

Regards Herman

Nice! So you did not drill bar for center line, just created loop with dyneema? how does it work. Can you freely depower and steer kite at the same time? Is there a lot of friction beacouse of that set up?

Correct. Not a lot of friction (plenty of space for the rope). I still need to put the dyneema loop in a plastic tube to decrease friction further, but it works well as-is.

Strange, I had a similar solution but found that friction and forces are far too great. I replaced with metal eye (one bar) and with a metal strap attachment (another bar); tested several times on water, and both solutions are working just fine.
