Bars with adjustable Y ?

Postby Peter_Frank » Sat May 16, 2020 10:41 pm

Hi

How many bars has an adjustable Y?

And how do they "lock"?

Assume it is simply two frontlines with a low Y and the flagging line from here, and then you move a twin ring or similar up both lines where you want the Y, and lock it in place?

How many bars has this feature, and possible to see the details about the bar?

I know Takoon's Sweet Bar works like this (and also has a cleat trim which I prefer), but there are others, which?

Image

By the way, anyone who knows the difference between the V1 an V2?
Could not find any details on the web about these bars...

And which other bars got this feature, and possible to see them in detail?

(searching for new bars)

The cheapest way is to buy a Duotone V-distributor, which you can use on almost every 4 Line single frontline safety bar.

Thanks, can see now how they are made :thumb:
A bit big though, as one line with its sewn end, has to be able to be passed through one side, and place for a locking screw on the other.

Compared to the simple 3 ring split.
On the other hand, when 3 ring used with a safety (stopper ball) it is about the same.

Opens up a lot more options for new bars :D

How high is the split in the FS Bar that you got with the Peaks?

Just for trying /I suppose you want to try peaks with different Y/ I used transparent selfsticking sheet, which is used for bike frame protection or for model airplane protection. I think they call it helifoil or something like that. Just make tight "tube" like 1,5 cm around front lines and thats it. Of course it block safety - but just for trying how kite react on different Y is enough.

Let as know if you find something interesting about peaks on Y. :)

I use one of my Peaks with the FS connect bar and the other 2 Peaks with low V on homemade KISS bars. I don't see any advantages or disadvantages with either.

No, I dont want to try with different Y heights...

Need new bars, and I dislike low Y, but if I dont go for an adjustable, it is almost impossible to find the "parts" and lines as a full setup.

Whereas with an adjustable Y, you can use any bar.

For use with tubekites and waveboards mostly, as double skin foil kites and single skin foil kites are for hydrofoiling and here the bars are tweaked and different very often anyways, so got nothing to do with the Peaks.

A number of bars are made with these huge molded soft plastic ends integrated into the leader line/finger protections, aaaargh, hate those bulky big things, I want the classic "smaller" sausage type where you can remove them if you want to, or not, and they are a lot more anonymous and nice IMO :thumb:

Also, bars are made with adjustable "widths", almost each and every single one
If you dont ride unhooked freestyle, it does not make sense to shorten a bar like that (and those who do, got smaller bars anyways).
- then you have a big bulky long bar with narrow width, where you could buy a short lighter and nifty one instead.

Narrows it down unfortunately, the choices...

Once go to to bare carbon there wasnt going back for me. Doing one bar is time consuming and not worth saving money. But if you doing like 6 at one time, many operation are get streamlined and efficient. Then its start to be reasonable. You can make bar for every kite with precise lenght you want. You will make your own lines and safety anyway i suppose.

About Y if you dont want to use safety very often you can splice a eye on one line - and do it without any hardware - I hate any hardware on lines.
If you value time above money - then just buy connect bars from FS - they are most cleanest non nonsense high Y bars.
