Like the look of the Hexagrip clear deck stickers or the Van de Wall ones.
Why are they so expensive and what are they made of and how do they work?
Has anyone got cheaper ones from China that work the same?

I tried many of the clear Chinese grip tapes and 3m safety walk.
One of the Chinese tapes has pyramids cut into it. The grip is good but alas it adheres poorly to the board.
SafetyWalk is not bad but Hexatraction and wax mat are much better.
Cork is my favorite. The cheap cork stickers don’t have the right glue. But plain cork sheet with contact cement is top notch.

I have been looking at cork deck. what thickness ? is 3mm ok ?
I can get it locally, but have to buy 1m x 10m roll. I can make 20 boards..costs 79€ .
Thats only 3,95€ per board !
and do you treat the cork in anyway ? or just leave it plain.

2-3 mm is a nice thickness. Its nice to have a little edge and a little texture to push against. One of the easiest things to do is to cut individual pieces to about 10 cm and put it on with a little gutter between pieces. On one board I ran the pads across my table saw with the blade at 1 mm to make a waffle pattern. On another one I drilled a hole every 3 cm. Otherwise leave it plain.
Also, make sure its natural cork and not some kind of cork composite. For example one roll I tried was two 1mm layers of cork sandwiched together. The glue holding them failed.
Cork does not last as long as EVA or hexatraction but I I think is nicer and at the price easy enough to replace. I am at a year on a pocket foil board I ride 4-5 days a week. I put a mixture of my own cork, hexatraction and wax mat. I would have done 100% cork but I wanted to respect the graphic artist and I was not expecting a top surface graphic when I ordered the board (only bottom). The cork is starting to disintegrate at 1 year and I probably replace in the next week or two. The hexatraction and wax mat are going strong and clearly last better than EVA but I think they have lost some of the surface property that makes sticky. EVA would be peeling up by now but would be a simple glue fix.
For OP another good option that allows the graphics to show is traction in varnish. A buddy has a temaviento board with a really nice surface. I have not been able to duplicate the effect myself but if I could I would consider going that route.

Paint store, spray on non skid. Yellows after 3 years but so what. Can make it as smooth/rough as you like depending on how many layers you spray on.

Apparently you have not seen the silicone stick on waxless grip made by Surfco Hawaii??
We have used it for a couple years.
And Ronix wakesurfers are putting it on their production boards for 2020

I like cork too. I just use cork drawer liner from the home improvement store. Glue it on with Dap Weldwood contact cement.

Cork is not transparent, that was the whole idea.
Even Spacestick's are only semi transparent (got some myself), whereas Hexa Traction RSPro (I think the OP mean, when writing HexaGrip) is clear.
SpaceStick are thicker and softer, and better grip, but not clear.
And very few boards are all white nowadays...
Hexa Traction is awesome for foiling, have use a set more than two years now on a hydrofoil strapless, and eventhough I got spare ones to use when worn, they are not slippery yet, and not one single one has de-attached or anything.
But it is not as grippy as a normal deck, so for other boards than foiling, it might not be sufficient grip for everyone
I like them, deck art fully visible
Van der Waal should be even more grippy, and clear, and cost a bit less, some say, but havent tried them myself.

Thanks for the insight Peter. Yes, clear for my boards.
How do the clear deck grips work?
Is it tiny pores in the surface that make a mini vacuum to the base of the 🦶?
If and when I get more proficient and make a pocket board, I’d use cork grip.
The clear ones will look cool on my lib tech surfboard and won’t melt with the hot weather in the van.
