Rear edge of a foil mast too sharp

Postby Dazgray » Tue May 19, 2020 5:45 pm

Hi all

I Recently picked up one of the original F-one foils and afterlooking at many foils on the beach i was amazed how dangerously sharp the aluminium mast rear edge is.

To the point I cut my hand getting it out of the box.
I get that the foil itself needs to have a sharp trailing edge but does the mast itself trailing edge really need to be that sharp ?

If you kicked this in the water of even worse landed on it it would cut you to the bone.

Its sharper than my axe in the shed

Whats everyone's thoughts ? Should i get the rear edge taken off very slightly so its not as dangerous.

If you don't race you don't need any sharp rear edges.

Trailing edge doesn't have to be sharp. And you can make it less dangerous by squaring it off. I think it's been discussed here that square is better than rounded.

Same here with the Zeeko Blaster stab! You can slice a soft tomato with it!

Got it last July. The corners of the stab TE are the most dangerous part.
Is your rounded or squared off?

Well, I just checked....

It's a thin edge but I wouldn't call it sharp tbh.
