shimming Moses 633

Hi all,

I ride a 633 for about a year now, and very happy with it...

bought it last year with a stubby board (F-one) (about 1m30, 3.2 kg).
After a few sessions i found the front food pressure became too much with speeds above 30 km/h.
I put a 2mm shim under the back wing, the front foot pressure was less and never looked back.

Today I tested another board, same size as mine but custom and 1kg less. Much lighter en less flex. (full carbon)
It was the same foil (633) but no shim.

I felt back the high front foot pressure without shim... but also the board felt much more agile (I would even call it unstable), more responsive... the board I used was a little bit lighter than mine, but I think the shim makes a big difference...
It also felt like the unshimmed wing had a better lowend... easier to get on the foil with limit conditions... definitely more lift.

is there somebody else who can share his experience/thoughts about shimming the 633 foil ?

I have a Dwarfcraft micro and I have to shim my 633/438 as well. I think if I was on a larger board I would not need it. A few of the guys that ride the same foil with custom carve boards don't need to shim since they can put their front foot further. I did print my shim with my 3d printer. I have been planning on posting the stl files but have been too lazy to do it lol.

Shimming works but inherently introduces a bit of turbulence as the stabilizer counters the front wing lift harder. Generally better to try to get your weight further forward with adjustment or a different board.

Isn't it less friction and less force that counters the main wing lift? Assuming you add height to the rear of the stabilizer.

I foil strapless and i can move my feet forward.
My experience is that shimming also changes the feeling of the foil ...
it’s more stable with a shim. ( but hey... maybe ti’s just me ... )

I solved the same problem with a different stabilizer. In fact, I can't imaging riding that 483 anymore on that wing! (this is my personal opinion by the way). First I went to the 450 stab and thought it was magic. Then to the 330 and liked it so much more. Then to the 325 and found it even more fun. Then to the old race stab 380 which I still ride often - night and day! But now I ride the new 425 and I'll never ride another stab on the 633 again. The 425 is the stabilizer that I ride on every wing now, from the 1100 (massive) down to the 548. The only wing I don't use the 425 on is the 637 which I stick to the 420 for that one.

Both legs are perfectly balance w/the 425 on the 633 strapless.

Yesterday I did a stablizer demo with my 683S front wing on my strapless micro Dwarfcraft: a micro stab with scalloped trailing edge that I think might have come on the 2018 race setup?--tiny--the 421 and the 425. I currently use the 450, and really like it. I had the 483 originally. My two cents:

The tiny stab (smaller than the 325) was loose and fun, but too unstable in pitch for me. I could have adjusted to it, but it felt overly unstable for what I want to do on foil. The 425 was brilliant. More speed and looser than the 450 with only a slight reduction in pitch control--as in 4 reaches and I adjusted. The 450 is a great stabilizer, and might be the ticket for XL riders, or anyone who wants locked in pitch stability but still loose enough to have a surf feel. I was amazed to also really like the 421. It's a notch faster than the 425, but also another click less pitch stable. In the end, I decided on the 425. It's faster than the 450, looser than the 450, but still maintains excellent pitch control. The 421 was a very close second, and if I was not trying to master roll tacks might have been number one? Anyway, bought the 425! The 425 pulls my feet back about an inch, compared to the 450.

i have 330, 425, 483 stabs, strange but seems that 330 pumps best with Onda. Can someone confirm it to? Of course 425 seems as best from these for all mixed purpose.
