Made my own version from scratch, although it looks quite similar:



My adjustmenst after a few iterations:
-more reliable to print in PETG
-lighter, more compact
-better grip
-tight fit for the rings to make an even better connection
-open front to ease the installation of the rope

A little off topic. I see a potential issue with the leash being attached directly to the QR: if your rope breaks, then you lose everything - kite, bar and QR. Not spinning the safety line around the rope is nice, but there is a cost.

You mean the sliding rope? Maintenance and regular inspection is the key! It is a sacrifice to make for free spinning setup.

Same applies to the harness hook or depower cord + flagout line. If those break on a normal setup your kite also flies away. You would be surprised how many kiters ride with worn out gear that can get them separated from the kite.

Especially the flagout lines get neglected a lot, most only replace them when they needed them after they (unintentionally) hit the quick release. Snapping that poor frayed line of course. They would be better off without the flagout and leash as that makes them aware of the possibility that they could get separated from the kite instead of the a false feeling of security.

Yes, I mean the sliding rope. Same thing for the hook. The spreader bar might fail too, who knows.

The flagout line is a separate topic. Whether it holds or not is a different issue from having it attached directly to the QR, or not.

I’m not trying to say that one setup is good, and the other bad. But there are some trade-offs involved.

A cheap alternative if you don't combine the leash ring: a plastic ball with a couple of grooves cut into it.

Discovered a new way for the flagout recently. You loop it around the claw closest to the hole it goes through. It also functions as a stopper for the qr housing so you can't push it too far up.
