We have good winds and good wind swells along our large coast line and I am thinking that epic downwind trips (or up and down) with a small good drift kite like the peak 4 and a large foil might be my next frontier.
I also think that the w1000 (w790?) might be good since (It seems) I can go fast and slow (and grate upwind angle); does this seem good thinking? Thanks
In theory yes. Although I would tend to go with the 800 if using a kite. However it is so fast that I have doubts about even the Peak 4 being able to drift with it. In my video I was even overtaking my wing with almost no swell pushing me. I imagine in big swell the speed will be too much for any kite to handle.

Thanks Gunnar, what I don't understand yet is: is it easier to go slow with a slow foil? Otherwise, it would seem to me that a wing that can go both slow and fast is intrinsically better than one that only go slow?
Also, the 1000 can go slower (for a 85kg rider) without stalling than the 800?
Yes the 1000 can go slower than the 800. However on a downwinder going slow is not really what you want. You want to be able to at least match the swell speed and even better be faster than the swells to be able to turn on the them and also overtake them and get to another better swell.

Thanks Gunnar, that sounds fun.
I’m starting to get it; wind wings might also be a thing BUT... I’l develop kiting skills first to see where I can go.
Going slow might be THE thing.

Yes.
I use it mainly with the 670, 800 and 1000. Even though it has less spann it feels more stable than the 421 with these wings. especially for winging.

I've just bought a 683s wing and want some advice on good stabs. I'm into strapless free riding and am an intermediate foiler. I tend not to do long runs and like to turn lots in a fairly small area - a Drexler wanna-be I guess. I like doing tacks (heel to toe and toe to heel), 360s etc. I weigh 82kg and normally ride in 10 - 22kts. I'm considering a 325 or 330 stab to provide a looser feel. Can anyone who has tried either of these stabs with the 683s or 679 provide any feedback on whether these will be a good fit for the type of riding I enjoy or if I'm better off with a 420 or 450?

I tried the 633 with 450, 330 and 425 and for me the 425 works best. 450 is very nice but too much front foor for my pocket board (had to shim it then it is +- OK), 330 was too unstable for my liking (lot of pitch). 425 is in between, faster then 450 and perfectly balaced for the 633.
My son rides the 679 with 330 and after testing it it was perfeclty balanced and pitch sensitivity was perfect (and was not OK for me with 633!)
These are my findings after a lot of test, shim etc
In terms of turning and wave riding, 450 is great, 425 also, but I tend to turn a bit on the axis also, not only using the pitch in the turn if you know what I mean, so the pitch is not the only factor for short radius carving.
450 gives A LOT of lift for freestyling (but a lot of front foot pressure), 330 not enogh for me, and 425 in between

Ran 645 front with new 421 race stab on the weekend. Beautiful combo!! Really nicely balanced.

Thanks for the quick reply. So you felt the 330 was a good fit with the 679?

I’m sorry too many people got excited about discontinued 425.
I can attest that 420 (almost identical to 421) rides very similarly.
