minimal feel reduction surfing shoes

Postby gigibianchi » Sun Jun 21, 2020 8:25 am

Which minimal feel reduction surfing shoes (or socks) do you use to protect your feet from edgy reefs and jellyfish when strapless hydrofoiling?

I have a pair of dynema socks from the barefoot company.
Note that for piercing objects it has limited protection since piercing objects can force themselves between the fibers.

Agree, they are awesome - I also use these when deep winter and below the freezing point :thumb:

Latest years I have found they do not last as long as their earlier models (but might have been solved, and does not matter because they are worth it), but they are super barefoot feel, both for summer and winter use, and you can choose the sunfast/madi for an easy summer shoe, and the Semtex or Hot Mistral for winter use for better season fit :D

Splittoe or not, whatever you like.

I have tried many different kinds. I have tender feet and seem to have magnets in my feet for things that can hurt you. These are my latest. Very good feel/fit as they are custom molded to your foot.Thick enough to seriously protect your toootsies with good feel for the board.

Atan has great feeling. However, they are very sensitive and will only last you about one season. Compared to my Okespor that lasted 20 years... But try the Atan, with the expectation they will only last a very short time.

Recently got some of these and love them for board feel and protection from shells and sharp rocks, am certain they'd do well on reef too.

But they are expensive, and I can't really speak to their durability firsthand since I've only ridden them for 6 or 7 sessions so far. I can say that the rubber nubs started falling off after day 1. Not a ton of them, but the big toes are becoming a bit bare. And online reviews I've seen tend to complain about durability.

Oh and they offer no warmth whatsoever when wet, but that's not a problem for my beach.
