lighter harness for foiling?

I wonder if anyone tried a lighter harness for foiling. As I use much smaller kites my kitesurfing harness is a bit too much.

For me it must be a seat harness because of back pain. I don´t need a hook, just a rope.

The NP RACE seat harenss works a treat, but looks like no longer in production.
You can take the hook off and put a slider rope to shave off some more weight and bring you bar closer

Surf short harnesses work great for me. They are light and compact. Been using mine 3 years and 300 hrs. Still going strong. Dakine and NP make them. I have the dakine.

I have used a climbing harness without spreader bar in light wind a couple if times. It works well and i liked having the pull mainly on leg straps while riding. It was less comfortable riding switch, but still ok. I wonder if its possible to attach a spreader bar to a climbing harness.

I went from a Dakine Fusion, to a Mystic Star hybrid, and finally have been using a Dakine Rengade for the past year or so. I don't have an issue with back pain (though I would with a waist harness on a TT, so still use the Fusion on TT) but I'm using a 10m kite as my biggest, a large wing and am not "racing" on the foil so I'm basically just standing around on it.

The Renegade is old -- probably 2012 model. Got it and never used it cos it hurt my back, so it sat in the shed for years. So it's freaking HUGE. Reckon a hard shell harness, which is much smaller, would be just as good and comfortable.

IIRC Jay did a harness that didn't soak up water, so that'd be lighter, if that's what you mean...

I have been using the Ozone Backcountry harness for a couple of years. I really like it. I use it for all of my kiting. A waist harness was hurting my lower back. I like the harness because there is no restriction to my movement. I can squat down and it's comfortable. I have a carabiner in the loop and attach my chicken Loop to it. I use it year-round. I like it on the snow as well.

I have found the Dakine Vega to be a great minimalist seat harness for foilboarding. So far, it seems to be holding up better than the Nitrous board shorts style that I previously used. A couple places have them on sale for around $120 which seems to be a pretty good deal.

Why not try a simple climbing harness. I've been using one mainly because I have them anyway but on smaller kites there isn't enough pull to make them uncomfortable. I've even started using my minimalist glacier harness that is not even meant for long climbs, it's like 80 grams and doesn't soak up any water and dries pretty fast. It's an Edelrit Loopo light.
You can find these for about $50 new, and even cheaper second hand because people don't consider climbing with second hand gear safe. But for kiting it's not an issue, it will never break as it's made to hold much greater forces.

+1 for the Ozone Backcountry harness, tried my climbing harness for a while until the Ozone back-country harness arrived, it's way more comfortable than my climbing harness during higher-load periods like fast water-starts or beating high upwind.

Just what I tried.

It works but the harness is still pretty uncomfortable. I expected more pull on the legs but I found quite a lot of pressure on the thin back strap.

Next attempt will be a cheap minimalist harness sold for power kiting. Anyone tried such a thing? I have one from decathlon about 15 years back....
