Slingshot UFO

Postby Greenturtle » Tue Jul 07, 2020 2:51 pm

They say its light but don’t post the numbers. Anybody with weights?
uses single ripstop, good start.
.3 mm bladder is not the lightest tho. Hope they meant .03
Even LF has used .1mm

Its interesting they have the sst, ghost, and ufo. Thats a lot of models targeted for a similar user, they must be selling a lot of hydrofoils!

Price is a smidge less than new cloud but not anywhere near what I would call cheap. Although slingshot is more likely to go on sale at some point (unless it sits in the line unchanged like the z does), trying to be optimistic here :)

I think that it's a good thing that they don't propose any kite larger than 9m. Meaning that it is not targeted to use with a wind lighter than 8-10 knots (they say 6 knots on their website but its optimistic in my view).
The main problem with struless kite is the relaunch, especially with large size and very light wind (with the canopy glued to the water). With no 12m² or 15m² available, nobody will be tempted to foil in less than 8 knots.

VS a Cloud, much easier to purchase and likely to be available outside the U.S.

Rode 5m on 50cm bar, 23m lines and 695/425/105 with 36” board. Packs to nothing, looks more durable than Cloud. Comes without Greg’s attitude (do you know how to fly a kite? Are you willing to re-learn your kite flying skills?). Turns nice and doesn’t backstall so it generates convenient looping power. Depowers excellently.

Comes in any color combination you want as long the combination is navy/white

1990g the 9m. Drift and Depower are phänomenal, waterstart not tested...

A foilbuddy(dealer) had his UFO 9m 3x times out now.
On his scale 1990g. We were together foiling. Not much flutter . Good drift and depower .Low grunt . Not super fast. No reverse relaunch possible on dry land in very low wind . Can jump if you hit the gust. Nice minimalistic toy.

Can anybody explain me why you need a no strut kite in 3m, 5m and 7m?
Even when foiling you need with the 7m at least 13 - 15 Knts and then the low weight doesn't play a big role or am I missing anything?
Even more extreme with the 3 and 5m. You lose all the benefits of the struts (1 or 3).
Why would you buy a 5m UFO and not a 5m Ghost or SST?
