Who cares what the WSSRC needs ? The WSSRC (World Speed Sailing Record Council) is for sailing - not for kiting.
It has the wrong rules for kiters (depth rule).
If you really love speedkiting never get involved with a sailing club :cool2:

I don't understand why the speed record is not held by a rider on Hydrofoil.
I read an interview by Alex Caizergue talking about his record and he said that with his current setup he can reach a speed of 1.1 or 1.2 times the wind speed. Meaning that for his 58 knots records, he was riding with at least 50 knots of wind.

With an hydrofoil you can go faster than the wind (more than 2 times). So the potential for breaking speed record seems a lot higher. Furthermore, actual foil competitions are only focus on speed (it's a basic race between riders).
Is it a problem of stability, equipment... ? (I don't foil so any information is welcome).
The reason is drag. A double in speed increases drag by four times, so at high speeds all that surface area of a hydrofoil (wing, stabiliser, fuselage, mast) becomes a limiting factor. You want as small area as possible in the water. Think about fast airplanes like the X-15, they have really small wings.

I assume this is a spoof and not a real world record? 67knots = 77mph = 124kph.

They dont appear to be going anywhere near 77mph in this video?

Yes, it’s fake. Off course.

Shaping a board while wearing a super tight speed suit and a helmet ⛑ with snowboard googles....

Few years ago, before SailRocket crashed the party, when kiters were the fastest wind powered nautical vessel, having the tick of the WSSRC was quite a big deal. And that was a legacy from the windsurf years, speed weeks, the canal of the Saintes Maries, the 1st>40, etc... It was a big thing and those seriously into that game did care quite a lot about WSSRC indeed.
But point is, Sylvain can claim to have that record, and you can't. Whether this is right or wrong is not the issue for now, those are the rules of the game.

On the other hand, maybe that was the starting point of kiteboarding getting phagocyted by the sailors, ...that and the golden promises of the Olympics...

As far as I know the WSSRC has the right to ratify SAIL records but not SURF records.
So I can claim a surf record whenever I want.

I would have seen more of this Tridem board, especially doing a jibe at a good speed or on a wave  : lots of coordination needed !!
