What pull force should the strong middle line withstand?

Postby Caesar » Wed Jul 29, 2020 11:37 am

Hi,

I need to replace again my North's "grey strong middle line". I've got a few custom made here in Cumbuco, but they don't last long. I'm just looking at a roll of 4mm Polyester lines with a pull force of 300Kp. Would that be sufficient?
Attached a pic of the line I'm talking about (No. 5 on the drawing).
Thank you.

Cheers

I don't know the specific of the bar but I do know you cannot use Polyester in general because of the amount of stretch it has.
If you want some no-brand option look for either dynema or spectra lines.

Cheers,
Robert

dont think so.
strong middle is 3mm, I assume.
SK78, should have a breaking strength of 950kg...
This matches to the Idea, that middle line is more than 2x stronger as a flying line (at 'old' north about 300kg)

So bad idea would say to stay with polyester junk...

Thank you both.
Can anyone confirm the 2012 North bar's line is 4mm and not even 5mm? It has to fit (and stay) inside the vario cleat (No. 8 on the attached drawing).
Thanks again. 8)

it is even 5,6mm.
But 5mm should work although.
6mm may be on the highside, it may slip out of the cleat.

Additionally to keep in mind:

Up to 2012 the depower line has to be spliced - and that with a very short sleeve and taper: It has to be stiched additionally, preventing the short taper slipping out of the splice.

This is neccessary, if you continue to use the variable stopper, cause he shall be able to slide into even topmost position.
Some 3rd party sparepart guys make it right for 15 bucks or so. Good invested money I would say.
Or do some experiences.
As you like.
