As we all get reminded regularly
Life can be short
What are you waiting for?
Give it a go, carefully if you must.

I would think anyone at any age can take up the sport if they feel they are up to it. But honestly unless there is some kiteboarding doctor on here I would take advice you receive about kiteboarding with a transplanted kidney with a pinch of salt, its probably not the place to take that sort of health advice from. If you are really concerned about any potential risks ask a doctor. But as far as age goes why not!.

Dont show that video of Dimitri to your doctor.
If you were asking me to teach you, i would ask:
Can you swim 200m in open ocean ?
Can you dive down 2m and swim a bit?
Can you do 50 sit-ups, and 20 push-ups in a row?
Can you jump from a 1m high object onto hard ground onto your feet?
If not, I wouldn't recommend it.
I started at 40, 60 yrs now and kite 100-150 sessions year round. All foiling now.

Come on man. If everyone had to pass your test the beaches would be empty.

I think that's pretty much on the money. I started at 42 & I'm 62 now. There's a world of difference between being 62 (even a fit 62) & 42. I'm willing to bet there's an even bigger difference between being 62 & 72. It's one thing to have the skills & gradually age, it's another thing to try & learn those skills at an advanced age. Not saying it can't be done, but I'm betting the vast majority of 70 year olds would not be up for it.
In any case, should the OP give it a try, it would be very interesting to hear about his experiences ...

I still wonder if wing surfing might be a good alternative.

Hello fellas,
I am new here. I am a 70 year old retiree living here in South Florida, and I am interested in picking up the sport of kiteboarding. Whenever I am down at the beach here in my town, I see all the guys gliding along the water, and it looks like so much fun. I have no experience with water sports or wind sports, but I am in decent shape strength/ cardiovascular wise. My only concern, aside from being older in age, is that I have a transplanted kidney. Been with me for 8 years now. Feeling great, and keeping active with the gym, and biking. Am I kidding myself thinking this would be a good idea to try and learn this sport? I've been reading up, and its not as easy as it looks, and I'd imagine learning curve is steep for an old dog like myself. Do you think there would be high risk injury to my kidney? Any advice is appreciated fellas.
Thanks so much.
The answers you are seeking should not be coming from this board unless any of the physicians i know on here, want to throw You a bone...if you are past the cyclosporin, past the rejections phase, 8 years post, then It would be more fun than bungee or skydiving.....
Short answer, learning to fly the kite, then learning water starts....and you are off to the races. Easy for me to say, but if you are in a place that has constant wind or at least consistent wind you will pick it up quickly. I have seen kiters in the sixth, seventh, eight and ninth decade of life kiting, so what are you waiting for? Take a few lessons, buy you own gear and find your favorite place to kite close to home.... have fun

You just have to want to kite...all the rest will follow. Kite areas are usually 3 feet of water.
