Another vote for the slider. I tried it as soon as I started learning how to ride toeside. I will never go back to a fixed hook for foiling. When I started out foiling, I used a seat harness. After about a year, I tried a waist harness thinking there would be less pressure on the ribs foiling because of smaller kites, and I found I much preferred the higher tow point for foiling.

Riding toeside with hook is always wrong. If you have not problem with it you just dont know about it.
riding toeside with a hook is fine for me. if it's a problem for you, i guess you have a problem you know about.

A good solution (for me at least) is to cut the hook and just replace by a flexible fixed point , made of a SS ring attached by a very short dynema rope like BRM system. You remove the leverage almost like a slider but you keep a precise control like a hook. And you gain power stroke (useful for short arms).

Yup. Dynabar will fix that problem
the dynabar helped quite a bit,,, still was not fully successful but perhaps next time,,, i am struggling building speed going toeside (board in water, btw),,, and the kite,,, (2013 10m north rebel) is super hard to sine one handed.

as i do the gibe,, i touch down as i pass the halfway point of the turn,, so then i have to ride toeside with the board in the water,, which abviously takes more power than the foil,,,if i could just stay on foil during the turn,,,things could go well or if i could just sine the kite to build speed up to get back on the foil,,, it would be good but so far,, not quite there. hmmmm. my board has about zero flotation,,, double agent

rope is really simple to rig on a lot of setups and is better than the hook for me. both for surf/tt or foil. just need to keep an eye on rope were is abrades on spreader. also it makes you want an easy to use chicken loop, but i found that the rope will make you proficient at any chicken loop you have. ..

when i learned toeside transition i found more kite power helpful. also back foot needs a lot of toe side-ness on the board and more pressure.
but toes side still requires more power than heelside. in really light wind toeside i still find hard to do. ropeslider makes it more comfortable, but no easier....

Go into the gybe faster so you don't need to rely on the kite, bear off downwind a little on the exit to maintain speed, then dig in and load up to head upwind.

Just practice.

I found the DA board to be fine for surface changes ... so long as you kept the speed up.

how many folks wear a seat harness? any similiar issues? also,, opinions on most comfiest waist harness for foiling.
I've been wearing the Dakine Nitrious for years now and find them very comfortable.

I tried a few different sliding spreaders and hated them all, but I tried Cabrinha Fireball and loved it. It has all the benefits of the sliding setup with only a single drawback (safety if you let the leash coil around the connection because the ball joint tends to spin instead of the swivel). It sucks having to switch bars to use it but on the bright side I really like the Cab Trimlite bar and I'd use it even if I wasn't using Fireball.
