Went back to the spitfire after a year on the moses. Rather interesting how the front doesnt move when plowing into waves upwind...perhaps my skills are better to ride it now...
Is anyone riding it with the XL wing and the smaller stab? If so, how is it?

I bought a second hand spitfire a year ago, just after learning (couple of sessions on a regular foil I borrowed).
Ordered the XLW wings pretty soon after that to gain low-end and stability. Because I read here that a lot of people liked the regular stab I've tried it a few times but unfortunately in marginal conditions, and in these conditions it stalled on me too quickly. So I put the XLW stab back on.
With my 78kg (and being a novice) I probably need to try again in at least 15knts or more. On these occasions it did feel more agile, the word 'slippery' comes to mind. Felt plenty different all in all.

Interesting, first time I hear about that! Which one is the Stab on the Spitfire (where goes the bigger wing, front or back)?

Does anyone really know how the Spitfire canard works (apart from the designer?)
It may not work the same way as a regular foil - with a stabiliser. For a start, both wings lift upwards, instead of the rear one pushing down.
My guess (and it is just a guess) is that they exchange percentages of the total lift as the angle of attack changes. So at a higher angle of attack, when the wings have moved forward relative to the centre of gravity, the rear wing would increase lift towards it's optimum angle of attack and the front wing would be maintaining flow over it's upper surface and still lifting, but have gone above it's optimum angle of attack for lift, so it's lift would be lowering - thus keeping the centre of lift in the same place. If that is how it works, the areas of the wings have to be a particular relative size to keep the centre of lift stable.

I could barely ride the standard wing set a few months ago so I go the XL wings. I will ride these for a while and then move down again.

Just not sure the "stab" name applies to a canard design. but if it does, the stab would always be the wing that is not the main wing. And the main wing being the biggest of the two, that would mean that the stab is at the front.

I sometimes have the idea that the standard set is made for the 'standard' 63kg French foiler, so maybe XLW is just standard for the rest of the world

There is a user here that uses the std front wing with the XLW rear wing and raves about it. But can’t remember name.
Going from XLW front to std front will increase rear weight bias and manoeuvre better

I wondered about this combo but never tried it because I always forgot to take smaller wings with me to the beach. I've been riding Armstrong foil since May, but will get the Spit out for a reunion soon and try the smaller stab.
