8 or 9? Naish Pivot 2020

Hi,

I'm riding a 12m2 2020 Swithblade to 20 knots with great success. Now I'm going for a Pivot 2020 or 2021.

You guys out there riding Pivot, should I go for a 8 or 9?

I'm 186cm and weight 82kg (right now ) and like riding well powered.

If you like riding well-powered, go for the 9. You should be able to ride that well into the 30ties.
Hmm, what type of riding do you do? Directional or TT..big air or not?

Both the 9 and 8 pivot are magic so either way you're getting the best kite ever.
How far up are you planning / want to ride it?

I'm riding TT Motion 138 and moving into directinal boards with straps. Most in to freeriding and big air

I think Im ok if I can ride it up to 30-34 knots.

At the high end you should be okay on the 9 on a TT,...you'll be super lit but on a directional, it will too much IMO. If the directional is something like the global which is skinny and can hold a ton of power and speed...maybe.
I guess it depends on how many times you end up on the high end of that. The Pivot definitely has a huge usable windrange, because you ride a 12 until 20 knots, I think you'll be fine.

Just note I do not know your expected wind or location...so when it is 34 knots at only of my local spots it is usually also super gusty with spikes and I tend to go with a directional, which means I tend to go smaller than that.

If your spot tends to have about 23 - 25 knots or if it tends to have 30-34 knots it might change my selection. So if the higher end it where the wind gererally is I would go smaller. If 80% + of the times it is right above 20 to 30 I would go 9. At 30 knots you'll be well powered up on an 8 too. Even if the 8 overlaps with the 12, the overlapp and coverage is better with a 9.

To complement your 12 I would also go with the 9. I am 10kg lighter than you and have the 8m as my to go kite in 20 plus knots. Above the 8 I have the 11m Pivot. I guess the Switchblade and the Pivot have similar wind ranges in the same size.

Is that a steady 30-34 knots or gusts?

If steady, you'd better be an excellent athlete with a lot of core strength cause a 9 will be very lit in those circumstances. I've had my older 9m on the water in steady upper 20s and that was a handful. No issues but to be honest, beyond fun for me. Great workout though
