Agree, don't go bigger than 4.5 max 5 m2 for 56 kg, and start smaller.

OzBungy, Windmaker, and Peter, thank you very much for your advice on my follow up question about the 6 m. Makes sense. Sounds like a 6 m would have been a big mistake. Good thing I asked. I was in danger of violating my own rule, developed over many years, of using the smallest kit I can get away with.

It appears that I was working under a misconception on the importance of wing size. This video makes the point, at around the 3:20 mark, "Don't expect too much from the wing. If you want to gain more performance, you want to be getting going in lighter winds, then the key is selecting the right front wing". That seems to be consistent with what you guys were saying.

I am also anticipating that, all else being equal, the smaller wing will provide more clearance from the water and hopefully digging in the wing tips while pumping will be less of a problem .

The scary thing is that this may be just the start of yet another expensive pass time. If I end up accumulating wing foiling gear like windsurfing gear (5 boards, 4 masts, & 7 sails) and kitesurfing gear (3 TTs, 1 SB, & 4 kites) purchased over the years, then the size of the first wing will probably be moot as there will be many more to follow. Not to forget the temptation to get a van to haul everything around in ....
