Moving the mast on a Moses T40

My current equipment is a T40 board, Vorace mast from 2016 (slightly angled backwards), 710 fuse, 633 and 483 stab.

Love the set up but I had tons of front foot pressure so I shimmed the stab a lot to reduce the lift (the gap between fuse and TE of stab approx 2-3 mm)

This works pretty good, but now I think about moving the mast further back on the board and reduce the shims. I will drill new holes or install a track box.

I have seen on newer boards that the mast is placed further back.

Is this a good idea?

If it is, could you advice me about where the mast should be placed?

I also ordered a 679 front wing for the set up.

It should work but it's a big surgery it has to be done well. Maybe cheaper/easier to sell the board and get one with a track. Another option would be a different fuselage like the stringfellow one. A smaller stab would also work. I made a fuselage for the 633 and moved the mast further forward it reduces the front foot pressure significantly.

You are of course using the most forward strap positions.

But have you ever considered going strapless instead?

Then all problems are solved.

Would be a better idea instead of maybe ruining a really good board (making it heavier at least)

I have ridden a lot on the T40, strapless (but with a Spitfire foil)
And usually put a little bit of deck pad in front of the existing pad, to be sure I can stand whereever I want in perfect balance no matter how narrow or wide stance I like

Hi, i drilled new holes 8,5 cm back, took a small allen key to remove the styro foam, put epoxy in and redrilled.
Not a big problem, just make sure to use slow epoxy that doesn´t get too hot while it hardens.
Rode it for 2 years and liked it a lot.
Then i discovered that it is more fun to ride the 633 with smaller stabilizers, currently i like the 325.
So at the moment the mast ist back in the original holes and will stay there. the position is just right for 330 and 325, but also for 420-
Please try a smaller stab first, this may very likely save you quite a bit of drilling....

Correct, a smaller and more fun stab, and your mast should be moved forward

I had a track box fitted over two years back and it worked perfectly, best done by a pro who knows best how to do this type of surgery without devaluing the secondhand price of your board, sold mine ages back now.
funny thing about the talk of using a smaller stab to swap out the 483, I have tried many smaller sizes and so have most of my sailing buddies as they had heard of this working well, but as yet I have never seen anyone change over to a smaller stab, not anywhere in the north west of england, and not yet at the foiling paradise of flag beach, strange that,
I thought they were all awful, and tried all sizes, only the 450 worked ok, but only for slower speeds in waves, not for powered up sailing and boosting.
but someday soon i will find someone on the water using one and will be straight over to him to ask more, and find out why we disagree about its use.

If it were me I'd go with a smaller stabilizer. At least try a few. The smaller the better.
