How to remove salt(?) residue (binding) from twintip

Any ideas how to get rid of that where the binding was? Sold the board and the girl who bought it is now unhappy with those marks.

I don’t think those are salt marks - if they were they’ll just rinse off. They are scratches from sand and small stones that get in under the edges of the pads and straps. Being anal I use the Entity board saver to prevent these but it’s kind of too late once they are there. Largely cosmetic though unless very deep.

It is definitely something on the board, like a crust.

The surface of the board has been abraded by hard particles such as sand being trapped between the board and the bindings. I noticed exactly the same damage when I removed the straps (North/Duotone NTT) to pack for air travel. Since then I have used pads cut out from 1mm neoprene sheet the same shape as the straps. No damage now.

As I said in the "Lieuwe boards" thread:

Putting thin neoprene pads under the straps definitely works, because when I took the pads off to fly to the Caribbean in February there was no sand abrasion of the deck of the Shotgun.

And by coincidence Duotone have recently started selling thin pre-cut plastic sheets to stick on boards underneath NTT pads to prevent deck abrasion! lol

Not that I don’t approve of a little home-made ingenuity if sand is going to a rare the deck surely it’ll do so by getting underneath whatever is there, whether it’s the pads themselves or your extra layer of neoprene...??

I figure that because neoprene is relatively soft fine sand will get embedded into it rather than being ground between the hard undershell of the pads and the hard deck of the board.

Yep I shelled out for the Duotone stock on ones having made crap versions myself that I wasn’t happy with. They are a rip off but work very well.

As the other said salt would rinse off. How about just surface damage from the sand / shells stuck under your pads for years? These images don’t tell the detail. G

Had the same on my 15 yr. old Crazyfly. Strictly cosmetic. Lightly wet sand with 400-600 grit and coat with clear coat. I used clear acrylic on mine a few years ago and it still looks good.

Forgot to say I did something similar with my Lieuwe Shotgun although it was fairly mild, I just lightly sanded it then put the Duotone boardsavers over the top.

Well I don't know what it is, always thought it would be salt crust and I don't think you get rid of that with just water. Those are not scratches guys, something is on the board but possible the board is scratched beneath that stuff.

Boats have that too and you can't just use water. But that's beside the point, those marks bug the girl who bought it and now wants to return it.

She tells me that the board is broken because of it and I always thought this stuff is normal with entity pads. Gonna call the shop where I bought it tomorrow and try to get another opinion. Feel free to chime in what you would do, I am trying to be open minded but can't see how someone would say that this is damage.

If it is some type of deposit or build up on the surface you could try a product like clr or similar meant to dissolve calcium, scale, rust etc. It won't harm the board surface.
