I recently bought an Apple watch just so I could track my freeride kiteboarding sessions. I was curious to know what distance I traveled, what my average and top speed were, gps log maps, and how many calories I burned in a given session. I also thought it would be nice to start accumulating a log of all my sessions to get an idea how many hours I spend on the water per year and how many successful sessions I have per trip.
Through my research these seemed to be the most popular apps out there. I found very little reviews and no comparative reviews so this is my attempt to remedy that. The apps I tried out and compared in order of most favorite to least are as follows.
1. Waterspeed
2. Zef
3. Strava
4. Sessions
5. Woo (sorta)
See full comparative review (with pics) on my site here:

If you have any feedback or questions please let me know. I'm curious what other Apple watch users have tried and liked.

I currently use
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/waterspor ... 1224941533 to record tracks (it seems really good, but does require a subscription to use all features) and Sessions for Jumps, but I will give Waterspeed a go to compare.

Why don't you use the standard Activity sports app and select the ''Open water course'' activity! it will show everything you ask for!

I can’t see an “open water course” option? What data does that record?

They you need to add it. You have the sports app with the green runner icon? Or you can use the ''surfing'' activity..

Will add the “surfing” activity and try it next time. Can’t see the other option you mentioned in the list.
Cheers

I just downloaded the app, it looks pretty slick! Very nice find, thanks for sharing Pete. I will try it out the next time I go for a session.

I’m a big fan of sessions
They seem to have woken from hibernation and are promising some new features soon. For me it works well

Leon, does the 'Open Water' activity also track your location with GPS? I always use 'Outside Cycling' for that reason. The only downside is that you manually have to lock the Watch for water.
