front/rear foot loading

Postby vakiter » Tue Sep 29, 2020 2:01 pm

i just picked up a used moses setup its the t22 with 590 wing.

the board has only one strap location, and fixed mast. i find the front strap location too far forward. the first sesh i ended up riding strapless, with my front foot right behind the strap, which feels more balanced. the normal setup felt like i was standing on my rear leg and steering pitch with my front.
i have ridden a delta hydrofoil race board and had a similar feeling.

so, is this the normal way people ride? i much prefer even load on both legs.

thanks!

Put your rear leg more to the rear-end of the board.. i gues it is to much front orientated..

I find the same thing with my board. With the front v straps on, I have to put my rear foot further back that I would like (or just load the back foot more, which is what I end up doing); I am trying to learn the foot switch and think that if the front and back are closer to each-other (and the weight distribution on both is 50-50%, it is easier to foot switch?
The mast is already as forward as possible in the tracks.

I had this exact same problem with the exact same board and exact sam 590.

Sadly, the T22 really cannot span the difference between the 633/483 and the 590/330. Truth is, I had to buy (2) boards to make those 2 combos work. And, (from memory here), the position of the mast for riding the 590 was 6" (you read that correctly, 6 inches) further forward than the 633.

With the 590 being way to far aft on the T22 (really Moses should disclose this stuff, they don't), you have to move your stance aft to accomodate (forget the straps). Once you move your front foot back 4-6", you run out of room on the tail of the board to move your back foot back any more, so consequently you need to move your front foot back even more. This extremely narrow stance will then balance equidistance from the balance point, albeit a crunched foot position.

The T22 works nicely for the 633 and other foils, even the 637, but the 590 likes to be crazy far forward.

If you commit to keeping that front strap, actually, forget that, you just can't use a front strap.

I bought 2 exact boards to handle this problem, and it worked like a charm (2020 slingshot dwarfcraft micro, and 2018 slingshot dwarfcraft micro). Their mast tracks were 6" different in their positions.

Now, the drastic solutions.

Drill new holes in your T22.
Drill new holes in your mast base.

That is the only long term solution I know of.

If you can ride strapless and ride the narrow stance, that is the easiest solution.

Hope that helps.

thanks a lot for sharing joekite, that confirms my experience exactly.
i was looking at getting the 633 anyway, so maybe i will just see how it rides with that.

probably will drill/epoxy/drill a new mast position if i want to keep 590. tracks would have been sweet.

thanks .

You can also shim you stab for more down force, this will help with your front foot position

You always want even load. You're gonna have to mod those foot straps or get a proper board that has a track system for the mast. Fixed mast sucks. Every hydro foil is different and if you can't slide the mast around it limits which wing you can use

Just sell it and get a board with a proper track system. When you have more wings you will need to be able to slide it back and forth

i drilled two holes in front of the existing hole pattern, so i can move mast to 2 positions with 6 holes total (looks like-> : : : ) . the forward position works great for me with the 590 on t22. maybe an inch back would be ideal, but this is totally close enough.

i know its personal preference, but i much prefer the strap, use it more than i thought for hard heal edging and while moving at speed.

I had the opposite problem with Moses' T40 and the 633 wing & 483 stab. This is how I solved it.

Before I had to shim the stab a lot to get proper balance. Now I don´t need to shim and the new trim feels much more balanced.

Yep. I am not a fan of fixed mast holes either. Tracks = options
