So, living in a van down by the river, has its advantages and disadvantages. One is plenty of time for selecting the finest 1.5l of wine for under 5 euros. The other is getting out when everyone else has looked at the forecast and decided to w... wu.... wrrrr,rrr..... work (damn that 4 letter word is hard to mention in civilized conversation) instead.

So currency is a matter of perspective. Swimming in on an old kite can bring a smile to ones face big enough to make up for swimming in on a newly issued COREporate kite for some other reason with a unhappy frown. Relativity.

i'm starting to lose track of my kite history, but the other day wrote what i can recall down. came to 27 kites, 12 boards, seven bars, and five harnesses in 15 years. 2020 was among the most expensive at $3000 for a new 2020 Naish Pivot 10m, used 2016 6m Pivot, a used slingshot alien air foil board and wing, new North Navigator bar, new
mystic harness. But i have gear in Illinois, Cape Town, and on my sailboat in Panama.

Before I started kite foiling, it was easy: 12m, 10m, and 8m (for the wife) Rebels. Get new ones every 2-3 years for safety reasons and sell the old ones. New twintip board every 5-7 years.

Now, with foiling, in addition to the Rebels, I have 12m, 10m, 7m, 5m, and 3.5m Boxers. I typically buy used kites for foiling (strapless foiling, so not concerned about something breaking on a big air), and it seems like I am literally always replacing something. For example, I just got the 12m, and now I need to sell the 10m and get a 9m for a better gap between 12 and 7.

I have no idea how much I spend annually, and, frankly, I don’t really want to know.

In the end though, can’t really put a price on the satisfaction you get from a good sesh.
