Moses shared setup for wind wing and kite

Postby matanshapira » Mon Nov 16, 2020 6:23 am

Hi,
I would like to buy a moses setup for kite that can be upgraded (if possible) to a wind wing setup in the future ideally by adding only a front wing. Is it possible without a significant compromise when I'll want to learn this new sport?
For kiting I'm aiming at either 633 or 790 as I ride waves with the kite.

91cm mast is good for both, right?
710 large surf fuse too, right?

stab, which will provide looser feeling while kiting with 633 or 790 and is suitable for kiting waves? will it also match the larger wind wing front wing? (will probably be w1100, right?)
thanks!

The 82cm mast is better than the 91cm mast for shared winging and kiting use because it is stiffer and therefore better for the bigger wings.

The 710 fuselage works with all the big surf wings (633, 679, 720, 790, 1100) So good for both kiting and winging.

I'm really hoping that Moses make a stiffer version of the 91cm mast (I.e. a 92cm).

Regarding stab size, I am using a 229 cm2 for my 1900 cm2 wingfoil wing, works great, becomes very lively, but still easy to ride.

For my 1200 cm2 surf kitefoil wing, I use a 175 cm2 which is supersmall, but works fine for a lively wavekitehydrofoil, and a bit bigger also works.

So if you get a small stab like the S325 (221 cm2) I think you are all good :thumb:

The S330 (217 cm2) is not sufficiently skatey with the winglets is my take, unless you like a stiffer feel where you drive in the turns.

S483 is quite big, 316 cm2 and really high aspect, could also work if you want to be on the safe side in terms of ease and stability, a tad on cost of turning and looseness, especially because the w1100 is a high aspect really big wing-wing, and does not turn that fast, but glides impressively.

In short: Yes you can easily use the same stab sizes for kitefoil and wingfoil is my experience

But if you want the wingfoil to be really easy and stable, a bigger stab will do wonders.

If you want a minimal setup, then 82 mast, 710 fuse, 450 stab and 633 + 1100 to learn and lightwind but you will endup buying the 790 also :-)
Only thing is you might have to shim the 450 with the 633 as it gives too much lift.

I have all of these for kitefoiling in waves and winging.

I ended buying a second fuselage and a 425 stab for the 633 which is perfect with a pocket board 94cm
790 is also nice for kiting in the waves.

So 2 setups and one mast.

I am 100kg

Isn't the 425 discontinued, or am I wrong?

Size seems okay for dual use yes, not too big like the 450.

yes discontinued but still available in the US in some places I saw. I found one second hand in Europe... I think 420 or now 421 will be close.
Never tried it with 790 or 1100 though but you can use the 450 with the 633, it is quite good actually, slow but god in the waves. But you need to shim it.
450 is advised for 790 and 1100.

I think they only advice the big 450 stab for the 790 and 1100, to give the same pitch stability feel, which would be correct simply because of the foilwing size/area.

IMO and experience, this is not needed, and you can get an even more fun/lively wing-foilwing, with a smaller stab.

Although, if the foilwing reaches higher AR, using a smaller stab might not increase the liveliness much, at least not in the same rate as it does when using a lower AR (or smaller) foilwing.

I will give it a try with the 425 stab :thumb:
