Standard crazyfly raptor vs raptor extreme, real life reviews?

Postby Cheoz0r86 » Wed Dec 09, 2020 4:44 pm

Hi everyone,

Highly appreciate your feedback on difference between the crazyfly raptor and the raptor extreme. I'm about to buy my next board and just wondering if the extra cash is worth? I have had the chance to demo the raptor extreme however no standard raptors to demo from my local shop.

Any inputs?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I understand . The difference is the material.
Extreme : made with Carbon, stiffer, less flex,

Same shape
...

Just my reading their information.

So, Heavy skilled rider: extreme
Light rider, looking for comfort and knee saving: normal one.

I have the 2020 Raptor Extreme 135x41, and I came from the 2020 Bulldozer 140x42. I havent' ridden the regular Raptor, but even coming from the relatively stiff Bulldozer, the Raptor Extreme is noticably stiffer and that might take some getting used to. After a few sesssions I didn't notice it that much anymore, but I can imagine it's not everybody's cup of tea.

I do like it a lot for big air and overpowerd riding, and it did help me get higher. Plenty of rocker so the nose won't bite into chop or whitewater that easily, and when you get really overpowerd you can still hit the brakes. That was very difficult with the Bulldozer (5cm fins in stead of the regular 3cm), since it's a bigger and faster board.

If you're going for regular freeriding I think the standard Raptor will be good enough. Extreme is for riding hard.

True on that, something I have notice on the extreme is the ability hold down a lot more power (compared to my ALR which made me start skipping and crash easily in overpowered conditions), just trying to figure out if the standard one will be the same in that aspect...

Raptor - Raptor LTD - Raptor Extreme - I think this is the progression in their models. I have the Raptor and love it and haven’t tried the other versions, but I’m sure you would be happy with the Extreme which they say is their best selling model. I’ve called the company a few times and they were very helpful so you might want to call them or a distributor. I’ve seen deals on prior year models and seconds, and maybe you could find a demo to try for the cost of shipping.

I have the 2020 regular raptor (135x41) and I'm very pleased with it. I ride pretty hard (weigh relatively little though) and it's holding up fine.

What I like most about the board is how explosive the takeoff can be due to how nimble and light it is. I've ridden it back to back with a regular Allround board and the Allround sticks to the water so much more than the raptor, it's nearly impossible to get decent height with it.

Drawback of the Raptor is imo that due to its lightness it performs not that well in chop and it can be really hard to get a proper takeoff (definitely not because of my shitty technique). I found the Torque and Monarch way more uncomfortable, but they suffered less in this regard. It could be the case that the increased stiffness of the Extreme helps with this, but I've never ridden one so I can't say for sure.

Also, CrazyFly support, in Europe at least, is god tier. I could almost build an entire board out of all the free replacement parts they've sent me over the years.

Sometimes a board breaks? That's pretty normal every now and then, with all brands. CF is not really known for it.

CF has a 3 year warranty period for a few years now.
