How to make a carbon design

Postby Matthijs94 » Mon Dec 14, 2020 5:06 pm

I was wondering how to 'color' carbon. Aim is to keep the carbon look at some parts of the board, as the other parts have a different design.
Does someone know what type of material is used to create these kinds of looks? See picture for example.
I am aware of epoxy pigments, but that's not the right way I guess.

It's probably paint sprayed on over the carbon.

Thanks for the answers. Some have experience doing this? Was thinking of putting the hot coat over the paint, so it will protect the design. Curious if the resin will melt away the paint though.
Paint over resin, does it hold up the sun/salt/usage over time. Dont want to mess up the project at the final stage

Test your paint/resin combo first before doing a full coat on the board.

A final resin coat will be more abrasion resistant but it will add weight. Weight you are probably trying to avoid with the use of carbon. Perhaps consider spraying a clear coat of paint rather than hot coat of resin. It will be lighter.
