Measuring loads live

Postby knot_moving » Fri Jan 08, 2021 2:16 pm

Saw somewhere a question about being able to measure in-line loads while kiting.
This an expensive option but would seem to fit the bill

I've seen somewhere a simplier version of it, with a scale, has anyone seen the video? I cannot find it again.

Cool gadget. Way off on the price-point for kiters.

There was an ancient YouTube video with analogue gauges, but it has been taken down.
Here is another one

600kg is way too much for kitesurfing and for me the precision of Cyclops doesn't justify the price tag.
With some skills you can make one for as low as 100 bucks I guess.
Optionally with a monochrome LCD for live results. Or a Bluetooth integration with the Surfr app. Curious if the jump height precision of the Surfr Woo, Piq can be improved by adding live G data from the load gauge.

Thanks nixmatters, exactly what I was talking about!

I would be curious to know the load of back lines and of the bar, any guess?

That load too was measured and shown in the other video that was taken down. Few kg per line in moan the lawn TT mode. But this depends a lot on the kite and especially bridle settings. Unhooked and boosting will be more for sure, but always less than the front lines load.

Duotone (project Teta) did a similar research and have some interesting data that was published in a German kite magazine... then taken down. I've got a copy somewhere, will post it here tomorrow ;)
