North Navigator Issue when flagging

Postby Papiloko » Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:49 pm

Hi Guys,

Today I dropped my kite on the surf, when I tried to flag the kite didn't fully flag and had plenty of power.

After someone on the beach helped me secure it, I went to inspect why the kite didn't flag, and there was a knot in the lines caused by a plastic tube, which I don't know where it was originally. I have attached the image. this bit of plastic is in the safety line, no idea how this created a knot but it was the main reason my kite didn't fully flagged... any help from North Navigator bar owners would be helpful..

That plastic tube is the stopper and should be up against the end of the first length of the 12m Front lines before the 10m extension starts.

Confirming Gunnar's post the plastic piece is a stopper that runs on the first 12m line extension. Talking with the team we're unsure how the stopper can cause a knot in the front lines. Can you share a photo of the knot? Our only thought would be some sort of freakish knot occurring when your kite was tumbled.

Thanks for your reply, I did not take photos of the knot, but you are probably right maybe with the tumbles the knot got created at that point. at least now I know I need to push it back all the way to end of that line.

Why using this plastic shit at all?
A double sleeve does the trick (preventing slipping through safety system) :

It's to prevent the knot from getting beat up with repeated powered up safety release (example school setting, beginner, etc)

haha, ok...
if you are able to have a safety event and have still load on the line after 11m slip, you are an artist, not a beginner :naughty:
To be honest: the sharp plastic will put much more stress (=wear) on the sleeve, by just being there, I assume.
So for me, I just use double sleeve and good...
