Strapless with a foamie

Postby andikite » Sat Feb 20, 2021 11:32 am

I had seen some videos on YouTube of a guy riding with a Wave Bandit Performer 4'10 that is a foamie board all round.

Now I just saw Tom Court (Duotone rider) trying this concept. Do you think it will became popular? For the price I would say yes!

Yes! He made me a recommendation in other post, so now is definitely his chance to open our eyes!

I've wondered why not people have given that a try. I ride my daughters Decathlon Simmons foamy in light wind and although the board is wide and does not like choppy water, for the price you cannot get a better lightwind board.

It's a pretty short board, but with an 11 meter peak4 I can ride this from 9 knots. This has saved many sessions this season, and I bet a better rider than me could make this work riding actual waves.

I'd imagine that fins are the limiting factor, but Slappy certainly makes em work and work pretty damn well.

I thought Tom did well on the Beater, big props for the prone runs! But the thing is the Beater is nowhere near the board the Performer 4-10 is. I own a 54 Special and it's basically a juiced up version of the Beater and it's not a great kiteboard (but it is better than the Performer behind the boat). I would consider the finless Beater as a cheap skimboard for kiting in the shallows but beyond that you'll want the Performer 4-10.

Just got clocked in the face by my Performer in 30 knots the other day, no worries

Yes, is a good point...

How about the low end? How many liters Performer has? How is the board on shopy condition? Weight?

Seems impossible to find Performer 4-10 in Europe. Has anyone found a similar board that works well for kiting that is available in Europe?

They work.
That beater shaper will be super gross though with a tail that wide for wave riding.
If it has Flexy fins they are soooo bad swap them out.. many use fcs1...
They are light.. stick to your feet!
They can suck water..
If you can flex them ( no wooden stringers) dont even bother.

There is a new generation of "foamies" .. a single layer of glass with eva on top. Eg mf mick fannings new brand
I dont know how well these will hold up heal dent wise but interesting..
