Hello, i have got the exact same issue.... bought the bar in October, used 10 times and the safety line start to wears out despite being washed every single time after the session. Also the bar has the same wear as yours. What do you guys think? Not too sure when the wear of the safety line is becoming risky... when do you need to replace it?
Hi there,

Mine is 2021, different grip so I can’t help with that.

The safety line, keep following up, you might need to change safety line and tube as it is rubbing the line.

Mine got to this point after 2 month and changed it. I will change it again soon with a new tube.

How you use your chicken loop? Suicide mode o normal mode?

I think using the o-ring of leash attachment in suicide mode helps to avoid this damage because you keep all your red line inside the tube all the time.

If you use in normal mode, when you land your kite and red line loose the tension, it drops to the sand due to the weight of o-ring and leash. When you put back the red line inside the tube you automatically are introducing sand in the tube and it will increase the possibility of wear.

I always use my clickbars in suicide mode and have no problem of wear in safety line...
I’m always using on suicide mode, clean the bar after launching, washing after use even inside the tube... in my case the cover is rubbing, been worst on the end edges. I know other local kiters without this issue so it doesn’t happen to all the click bars.

I doubt it has to with the suicide option.

Differences in tube manufacturing is a possibility but also consider different riding styles and cleaning/handling practices:
- some rider force the bar extremely hard against the depower cord or steering and sheeting simultaneously. Both will bend the tube and rub the red line against in internal surface.
- when launching try to keep the bar out of the loose/flying sand as much as possible. You can clean the bar after your session as much as you like, but if sand can enter the tube at the start of the session all that effort is in vain. So try to set up your kite as close to the water on wet sand and submerge it before putting on your board. Never leave the bar in a place where sand can be blown onto and into it before and in between sessions.

Trouble shooting wear issues like these can be maddening, had a prototype plastic insert for the bar hole in my bars. Some riders like myself did months with 1 insert while others went through the entire insert in only 2 sessions purely because they push the bar against the depower cord with more force. Those latter riders will always experience way more wear, no matter what bar you give them and are always complaining about breaking stuff too soon.

Hey I went through a couple of click bar safety lines. At first I thought it was the black tube edge, but I found after the second one it was actually a small sharp ridge on the metal tube the rope passes thru. It seemed like the press that turns the end of the metal tube over during manufacture may have damaged the metal, which in turn cuts the line when the bar spins under load.

See here:

I removed the edge using sandpaper on a drill piece.

I was curios what wear I would find on the flag line on my bar, bought 8 months ago, after reading this tread about the faulty line.
I have the same wear and see what the future might bring.. Anyhow, I am in a different opinion of @smccask and the linked thread..
My findings (I know I might be wrong are.

Pic 1:
The wear starts approximately where the match is.
The hole which @smccask mentions is inside the cap. There might be issues with his, but mine was very smooth and could not damage the line.
The point where the match is will reach the metal ring when you pull out further the flag line when connectong either leash or suide ring.

Pic 2:
Looking that the point where the wear / match was, it is also where the connection between tube and cap is.
2.jpg
Pic 3:
Shows how the line enters the tube; it is less than half size of the metal ring, maybe even less. There is surely an interference and resistance between the line and tube
3.jpg
Pic 4:
Shows the tube and the edge around the tube "entrance". Even though it is plastic it is relative hard and sharp.
I believe it is here the wear occurs. The flag line is pulled out of the chicken loop when assembling it or connecting to the leash. I often see my line hanging maybe 20-30 cm out the CL when connecting. (I havent found anyway to avoid this - it annoys be a bit (I mean, it annoys so much a hanging line can annoy these days.. :)). All the 20-30 cm line has to go back into the tube. Either manual by hands or it happens when someone lifts the kite for launch. That means at every launch the line will slide against the "sharp" edges of the tube. Maybe once again when doing a pack down after a session. That's a lot of traffic at the plastic edge for the little red line.. Maybe not an instant issue, but I believe it is a great wear over time!

Pic 5:
I have tried to make the edge of the tube less sharp by cutting it with a stanley knife. Doesnt look good, I know, but I think will give the line a smoother entrance into the tube. I might be wrong and have a pending disaster, thou I doubt. :) i am not sure how I can make it even softer.

Pic 6:
One more thing I have noticed, but not sure about is how the tube and the cab is aligned.
Looking at the cab the hole / metal ring is exactly in the center.
Looking at the tube it is much more side aligned.
I believe this will result in a non-straight flow of the line in the area between the metal ring and the tube. Maybe the line will constantly enter the tube line and the "sharp" edge in a 20-45 degree angel. Making the resistance between line and tube even bigger.
6.jpg

As mentioned, I dont know if this is the actual problem, but for the moment this is my opinions and findings!
What do you reckon?

Regards, K
