He looped it into the rocks while on land by accident landed head first. Maybe he slipped and then pulled on the bar with one hand? That's what I read on Facebook. There's some video that got taken down which shows the kite being looped.

I have seen the video...looks like he got tossed about 20 feet. Doesn't look all that violent but apparently it doesn't take much....RIP

Wind came up real quick that day around noon. Launch is tricky at best. Low tide, slippy mossy rocks you must negotiate. Wind shadowed. Kelpy. Couple miles East is all wide open sand, much safer.
Condolences to his friends and loved ones. Godspeed.

After watching the video it looks like the kite started to dive to one side and he brought it back past 12 way to quickly. No helmet and probably would not of helped. He hit head first going pretty fast. So awful to watch. Rip
