I keep hearing that Wing foiling is a mix of the sports of windsurfing, surf foiling, and kiteboarding.
I can see the relation between Winging and Windsurfing as holding, powering, de-powering a sail is very similar to a Wing. Same with many manoeuvres that use the same names such as jibes, duck jibes, 360s, aerial jibes etc.
I can see the relation with Surf foiling as you are also riding a foil using the same technique.
So, apart from also being a watersport what is its relation with flying a kite?

Cant say that this is what I spend much of my time thinking about,.....but wing foiling is obviously well related to kitefoiling just as it is to windfoiling. I would guess that many “kiteboarders” started kitefoiling before winging ever showed up, just as many wind foilers transitioned from windsurfing during that same time period. Wing foiling and SUP/prone foiling basically provided a new outlet for those ever improving foils used for kite/wind foiling

The material and construction is closer to a kite than to a windsurf sail.

Going out over waves is easy like kiting. You can get lift from the wing, not nearly so much with a sail.
Combination of wing and foil makes getting through big waves really easy compared with wind surfing. I've not kite foiled but normal kiteboarding is similar with the lift but having the foil lifting while the board is over breaking wave is also an advantage.

Arguably, a kite is just a reaching spinnaker on long sheets. Similarly, you could argue that a wing is just a reaching spinnaker with your arms as the sheets. They are all a type of sail and all a type of wing that need orienting to the wind to drive a vessel or board. Maybe they are all yachts.................... nah!! It foils me........ now I am in a flap feeling my life has stalled........I need to harden up or run away...... perhaps try another tack!!

It is arguably a kite with your arms as lines.

Going out through waves is easier with wing foil than with windsurf? More like the opposite...

Yes, that's probably the main reason why there is so much confusion.

If you disagree then it would be interesting to see you state your justification... I spend about 5 years wind surfing and the same kiteboarding, I'm only several months in wing foiling and it's already much easier going over waves. The foil slips under and I slip over. I pick up speed better, I maintain speed better.. At the moment I'm on big foils so I don't go as fast as wind surfing but I would wipe out much more frequently going over big waves wind surfing wen I was younger, skinnier and fitter
