GoPro Hero 9 with Max Lens Mod first sessions

Postby haiku » Tue Mar 30, 2021 9:06 am

Hi. If you are wondering how the new GoPro Hero 9 works with the Max Lens Mod see my new video. I used a Kite Line Mount and a Helmet mount to shot videos during light wind kite airstyle, wave and foil sessions. I set the camera to 2.7K 60 fps, Ultra Wide Angle 155° FOV and Horizon Lock. For the helmet mount I disabled the Max TimeWarp to increase the FOV. Overall the video quality is impressive. Mounting the video I didn't use any editing filters.

Cheers

Carlo

Hey Carlo,

How far up the lines is the camera mounted?

Would be interested in seeing the same perspective without the max lense mod for comparison.

Cheers

Edit: I get it. The max lens will keep it all level so the kite can loop without the footage rotating. Way nicer. The max 360 camera also does it really well.

That looked pretty nice! Hero 9 with Max mod seems to be the ticket for line mount kiting footage.

Are you using the new remote?

For comparison, I believe this is filmed With the GoPro max camera.

Hi, I mounted the camera about 3 m from the bar. Yes, the great advantage of the Max Lens Mod is the Horizon Levelling that works great so you don't need any footage rotating editing software. I also own a GoPro Max that has the same feature but I found that the GP 9 offers an overall better 2.7 K video quality. That being said the best feature of the GP Max is an impressive continuous recording time especially at 1080p.

Cheers

Dude I ordered the same stuff before finding this topic, also a white kite line mount! How long did it take from Greece to Italy to arrive ? If this is the best kite line mount, what would be the best strut mount, maybe that one where they made a commercial for where they say no need for a drone anymore (Have to look it up which one I mean exactly) But this max lens will do his work at max I think if you film from the kite, don't you think so ? Or can the newer gopro's do an already good job because of the horizontal levelling function ?
BTW your ocean water color looks like it is going from black/brown to blue/greenish. Have you made more YT video's with the max lens mod and don't you use the line mount while foiling?
This max lens mod installation was a pretty though one, it took some time and force etc. Horrible experience. They also sell one from telesin although the price is almost the same well $60 vs 80 euro if you don't get any discount.

They don't use the phrase no need for a drone anymore in the video :) :P but it sayed so on a dutch news kite site.
It's pretty expensive you can buy 2 at once. Not even sure if you can film only other people or also yourself. So maybe smart if this is the best or one of the best if you want to spend money on it, because there are also much cheaper solutions. Perhaps a test video would be smart to test out the max lens mod first.
